On models that are equiped for WLAN that space is, AFAIK used by a WLAN antenna. On other models, like mine, that space is just occupied by a blank piece of plastic. The WiFi antennas are actually behind the black plastic bezel that surrounds the screen. It's all enclosed. There is nothing to pull o...

Maybe it's because the port replicator is not a dock? AFAIK the dock has extra slots, etc. whereas the port replicator just, er, replicates or brings out ports that already exist on the base machine. AFAIK a different configuration of USB devices doesn't qualify for a different hardware profile unle...

I would definitely advise against going the superglue route. But good pointer about having the bottom of it touching anything, although this should not happen in a properly assembled keyboard unless there is a foreign body somewhere. When it happens I just let it go and wait for it to settle; small ...

The writing is on the wall. LED based backlighgting is in the future: lower consumption, color gamut control, etc. and also no more need for a noisy high voltage inverter and delicate backlight high voltage lamp. But it will happen when it makes economic sense, not before. My guess is that high end ...

IMHO, if you go to any resolution finer than 1024x768 on a 14" you need to switch to the "large font" in Display Settings. Otherwise it is much too hard on the eyes (and if it is not today, it guarantees eye trouble in the future). The higher resolution gives you better formed characters and sharper...

There is no standard definition for a line out, but generally speaking it would be an output that puts out around 100mV to 1V with an impedance low enough to match most devices that you would connect to it. In that sense, the T60 has a line out. It is low impedance because it is designed to drive he...

If you absolutely have to test in Safari, then you cannot escape the Mac hardware. On the other hand, you might get by with the cheapest Mac you can get your hands on and save the real money for a ThinkPad. Everything is so virtualized these days, even within the ThinkPad drivers, that distinctions ...

It's a planning compromise on the part of the Intel chipset designers. Not uncommon, and in fact a reasonable compromise at the time. Remember, every feature has a cost... and if a feature is premature the cost can never be recouped. But we remember also that someone famous once said "no one will ev...

The stock screws are nylon coated. That, rather than friction of the head, keeps them from loosening if they are not screwed on too tightly. You should be safe with those screws not torqued to the max, as long as the nylon doesn't wear out (which is why in theory the screws should be replaced with f...

IMHO SXGA on anything smaller than a 19 inch screen is a recipe for eyestrain and headaches, unless you increase the system font size to be about the same as on XGA. For example, 120dpi on a 17" screen. Note that YMMV. My eyes are not as young and reckless as they used to be. There are applications ...

The gap should be too small for a fingernail to fit in. The palmrest must be hooked down on the front at an angle and then the back brought down, to where it aligns with the screw holes. If you try to push it straight down it won't hook properly, and if you push hard enough you can break or damage t...
