Re: Is a Thinkpad p50 w/ an i7 still worth in 2020?
Isn't the T series the direct successor of the 600 series? Fair point, 600 came before T series by 2 years, I was assuming the classic IBM (premium) business laptop was the 7XX series in the 90's (there wasn't much of else of any heritage other than the 5 series?) and the T20 kinda started where th...

Re: Is a Thinkpad p50 w/ an i7 still worth in 2020?
To add my little contribution. 770 series -> A series (esp "p" models) -> W series -> T440p -> P50 (750) 760 series/765 -> T (non p) -> T480 One marketing the high end desktop replacement - the other a portable with small compromises. The gap between the A and the W was likely filled with the (15" f...

Re: The most expensive and rarest Thinkpads ? [relax topic]
As a point of interest, the first T series with an SXGA+ panel as an option was actually T22. Is that so? Well, you learn something new every day... I know just a little less resolution (SXGA?) was fitted to the high-end 770X's - probably just before the T22 time by a year. Think the A20p had an op...

Re: Original List Prices of IBM (and some Lenovo) era ThinkPads
Anyone realize that TWBOOK.pdf has a bunch of the prices of early Thinkpads? I'll go through and add these, although I think I sourced some early prices from the TW pdf's - sometime since I looked at this need to focus on total accuracy (although think most are accurate but you can always get bette...

Re: Upgrade T520 to T550 or T560??
Thinkpad T550 Questions: Can I replace my existing 16 GB M.2 SSD(cache drive) with 128GB M.2 SSD and boot windows from this drive? Personally, I have found the M.2 drives in the T450 and T550 very problematic, in my use case, that is with Linux, mostly Ubuntu, as well as initially with Windows as a...

I owned a 760XL for years, and used it after College living at home, so imagine my surprise a few years ago I took my T550 home and my mom stated "oh you still have that old machine"... other than being astounded by her memory (going back nearly twenty years) she really did have a point....

Re: T440p Battery Vendor/Replacement
Thank you. I got nervous then double checked my order and it is a 72Wh thankfully. Problem is, the 48Wh and 72Wh are the same size bizarrely (at least from what I can see online, never seen the 48Wh in person) as mentioned... very confusing. The 72Wh is obviously a far better option, glad it worked...

Re: T440p Battery Vendor/Replacement
If external make sure you look at the 72Wh not the 48Wh model (they look the same size) .... many people have made that mistake when buying an extended battery, thinking there is only one model. Some Battery stats may find of interest (via Fedora 24/25 Linux powertop and tlp tuning) T450 FHD TN 8GB/...

Well got so mad with my T450 with an "upgraded" screen... FHD but TN and it was *awful* that I sold it... so happy. Managed to find a T550 with i5-5300U, 16GB, 256GB SSD and IPS 3K touch screen for $500 (US equivalent) - pretty cheap for the UK. Seems I got it in the same state as it left the factor...

What I would give for a T43p upgraded to 3:2 QHD, fast modern CPU, 32GB and dual drives... I mean the exact form factor of T43p.
I loved that machine so much I can't think of any other (than perhaps my old 760XL) that ever exceeded it.
Widescreen (like glossy) the less said the better.

Ok now seems to work.
Not sure why?
I did push the reset pin on the underside on the motherboard through the little hole. Not sure though whether that helped!
Very strange battery problem hope doesn't re-occur.

T450 Linux (Fedora 25) Suddenly my battery has stopped charging... well both of them... the BAT0 (Internal) reaches 60% and the external BAT1 (72Wh) reaches 40% or thereabouts. Sometimes one is 62% and the other is 38% (seems to both balance around 100%). Also doesn't show charging - but if I reboot...

Although it may work with Linux (and phone home) not so sure about the BSD variants :) You may get away with FreeBSD, NetBSD and such on your machines... (as well as Solaris, OS/2 etc.) ?? The BSD's especially run almost anything Linux can (and even run Linux SW in compatibility mode) and are reputa...

Even if you keep in mind that a budget R40 likely cost more in 2003 than a top-of-the-line workstation today, your claim is simply not true. R40 was cheaper than the comparable T40... company purchased a few T40 back in '04 for the Moscow office (well I purchased for them) and I think IBM US were s...

The Glory years have long gone (1992 - 2006)... now Lenovo are trading on the legend.. but they can't pull the wool over everyone's eyes. I for one have to reluctantly admit that a budget line 2003 R40 is better built than any of today's offerings. Yes.. T61, T500 were OK... they needed time to lear...

What software did you use for DVD playback in 770? Although this an old topic I should like to contribute I had an old 770 (P233/MMX) back in 2003 and with any software it would stutter on DVD playback from the internal DVD-R, the way I solved it was with the DVD and Enhanced Video Adapter (DEVA) - FRU PN: 11J9008, 12J0411, with this playback was su...
