If you are using the standard IBM preload, you shouldn't have any problems - it should recognize the USB 2.0 ports just fine (?) If you are using a Microsoft OEM XP disk, you will need SP1 to recognize the USB 2.0 ports (the original XP release did not provide support for USB 2.0). I have the same ...

Re: 6-cell battery capacity degradation
Thanks. It seems that my battery is more or less normal if it doesn't keep losing its capacity anymore. If it does I need to probably replace it.

6-cell battery capacity degradation
Hi all, I've had my Thinkpad for a couple of weeks now and I'm a bit concerned about my battery. In these two weeks it has lost already almost 10% of its capacity (from 47520 mWh to 41300 mWh). Is this normal or should I be more worried? Could someone tell what kind of capacities you have in your 6-...

I tried also this Acronis True Image (version 8.0) mentioned in this thread previously. Problem I encountered is that when I try to create a bootable rescue media with Thinkpad's (t42p) CD-RW drive it gives me an error "Error burning the bootable CD-R/CD-RW" immediately after I press "Proceed" in th...

Thus far I have not found a backup/image process that copies the drive without disabling the HPA/PDA in the BIOS first. Just by thinking with common sense I'm not actually very surprised by that. If the partition is hidden at the BIOS level could ANY program really see it? Can programs somehow bypa...

But pressing the blue button @ start-up doesn’t work any more I guess? :) Yep. That's true. You won't get R&R anymore. ;) Instead it gives you a menu from which you can select either to boot normally, go to BIOS or select booting device from list. My "Access IBM" button also doesn't work in Windows...

OK. I finally got some time to try this and everything went smoothly. For someone thinking of doing it here is the way I did it. First I thought that I just wipe the disk clean and install fresh Win XP on it, but after that I thought: "what the heck, I have lot's of time, let's try this Rescue & Rec...

I believe that if you want the same siplay on both - you must use the same resolution. If you want an extended desktop - different diplays on each - then you can select the resolution for each one. Yep. What I want is exactly the extended working area so that I have maximum workspace. So if I under...

Installing "non-IBM" Win XP on T42p
I'm thinking of buying T42p and as I'm currently working in Germany I would get a German localization (GE WinXP & GE keyboard layout). However I'd prefer having English Win XP on the machine (key stickers don't matter, I don't need them to find correct keys and can thus use whatever layout I want). ...

Different dualview resolutions possible?
How the dualview functionality works with T42p using FireGL T2? I have now 19" normal CRT and I'd prefer using it with 1280x1024 @ 85Hz. Of course I'd like to use the natural resolution of 1400x1050 of the 14" TFT of the T42p. Is this kind of setup possible in Win XP? Or am I restricted to use the s...
