How do you put on just the right amount of thermal paste? How do you know you've used too much or too little?

Yea, itll warm up, then come on for a few mins, kick off, come on, go off, etc. etc. I dont have any temperature monitoring software on here so I dont know when exactly the fan is coming on, but I do know the fan isnt the quietest. Yep, that's what it does. Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I've nev...

Just throwing it out there, but would it have anything to do with a [possible] on-board security chip?

New R40 user

Hello all... I recently upgraded from a 600X to an R40, type 2682-HU2. I have two questions. 1: When I go to Lenovo's website to download drivers, it says the model type and such, and where it lists the installed options, shows: Based on 2682-FXU: P4-M 2.2GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768)...

The CPU load isnt a factor. It can be sitting idle (sysmon running) with no proceses and stil freeze. As it does when the exhaust if blowing cool air (it sometimes isnt even on long enough to get the CPU warm! :D ) but I think I'm going to try and Ghost the disk over to an identical 30GB Travelstar ...

Random Freeze 600X

Hey everyone... I have a 600X, model 2645-5GU, running Windows Server 2003 R2 with 576MB RAM, and a Linksys 802.11g wireless card, and a 30GB Travelstar HDD. Otherwise, the unit is stock. I've been having an intermittent problem with freezing. The unit will start then freeze at random points and tim...

Oh man this is real hard! My biggest downer on the 600X is that it randomly locks up for no apparent reason. And I like the prospect of being able to upgrade the A30.

I am primarily a Mac user, so I like to keep a Windows system around. I do minor traveling with it (the weight doesnt seem to be a factor), namely going between my moms and my dad's house, which requires me to carry it a few yards. Nothing too intensive. :) After upgrading the RAM and HDD in my 600X...

Thinkpad A30 or 600X?

Hello all! I have used a hand-me-down 600X for some time now (2645-5GU), complete with DVD-ROM, 500-something megs of RAM, and a 20GB IBM Travelstar HDD. I was recently given an A30, model 2652-CU7. This obviously seems like a better machine, but I just thought I would ask you experts: Since I can o...
