Thanks ryengineer. The actual blue screen wasn't giving me any useful info but the link you posted gave me the idea to check the memory dump and see what was causing the problem. I used the WinDbg utility and followed the guide here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35246 . The WinDbg t...

I have the same problem on my X61T running Vista. I've experienced the problem while in IE or any Office apps such as OneNote (very annoying in the middle of class). I've noticed that the problem only occurs when on battery power. Some other posts suggested that the problem could be attributed to th...

**Issue Resolved** USB Memory not recognized in Vista
Hi, I just upgraded from an x60 (XP Pro) to x61t (Vista Business). I went into using Vista with an open mind. I have ran into numerous problems such as slow key response in IE7, slow overall performance and constant hard drive usage, etc. I have been able to look past these shortcomings and fix some...

Answering my own question, hopefully it will be useful to someone... Since Powertop will suggest commands for you to run in order to reduce power consumption (most of them are very effective) it is useful to run these commands at startup rather than running Powertop each time and selecting which to ...

One thing worth mentioning: this model suffers from the always-on fan "problem". There are tools for controlling the fan so that it's not always on, and I think that saves power compared to letting the CPU run hot. I installed Gutsy the day it came out and have been working on ways of improving bat...

Remove a rpm package: rpm -e packagename List all packages: rpm -qa To play audio and video, install mplayer. Its not the prettiest solution, but the one that can play everything. Good point k0lo. I never really took that seriously before but after reading up about the difference between sudo and gksudo it's clear that it does make a difference. Here's a good explanation:

kpowersave/powersaved vs. apmd/powernowd
I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft on my x60 and want to increase my battery life. I currently have apmd and powernowd installed and taking care of power management. I was looking at kpowersave and powersaved as power management utilities and was wondering if there is any advantage to using those instead?

Question about restoring HD image using Acronis
Hey guys, I was paritioning my HD (60GB) for a linux installation when the partitioning was interrupted. The disk ended up having errors but long story short, using Windows Checkdisk and Norton Partition Magic I was able to correct the errors and have everything working. However, now I notice that i...

I just thought of something. My gf's connection seems to go out mostly at school when there are multiple access points for her laptop to connect to. I might have found a cure. In properties, under advanced tab, there is a setting for 'power management', and under that, there is a slider. I pull the slider all the way to the right, (max performance, min power saving). Seems like this solves the problem. However, it needs further test. One thing ...
