Re: R32 Old Driver needed

R32 predates the R40 by at least a year.
And don't forget that both laptops were made by Acer, not by IBM.

Check also for T430, T530, X230.
For those EC changes have been made to bypass the battery check and/or replace the keyboard with a "classic" one from T420/T520/W520/X220.

Re: Power increase on T500?

Best option is an SSD, followed by taking it a bit easier on your number of browser tabs, 30-60 is ridiculous IMHO.

Replace Firefox with the 32-bit BlueMoon, combined with Firemin, which should bring down memory consumption considerably.

No, just that the USB CD-housing can accommodate an Ultrabay device.

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

Did you lift any pads? No, only the capacitors slid around. Someone else may be able to "fix" them properly back in their original spots. When I pressed the PCB (with Kapton tape on the bottom) onto the dock tips, they showed up a tiny bit above the top of the PCB! After soldering with 0.3mm 63/37 ...

Re: Good deals on new AC adapters for Lenovo ThinkPad?

Any IBM/Lenovo 20V 65W/90W with 7.9mm round barrel DC connector will fit on any T/R/X ThinkPad from T60/R60/X60 till incl. T430/T530/X230. Those all have a pin inside that barrel opening. Before that they have 16V 56W/72W with smaller 5.5mm round barrel DC connector (without pin). After that they ha...

In my parts-collection I just came across these Cardbus/PCMCIA Smart Card Reader/Writer items. They fit into a standard PCMCIA Type II slot. Depends partially WHERE it comes from and how the text is WORDED. What's the eBay link, if I may ask? On eBay a lot is faked and text copied from a real item. In other words: many times it is potluck what you get. Once you have it, you can compare its weight to a proper/real one (if you have it). Th...

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

SUCCESS! My X230 now has the FHD-mod. I blew my original X230 motherboard and the new PCB by making a silly soldering mistake. Trying to solder the sens-wire to capacitor #3, I hadn't realized my iron was still set at a temperature of ~420°F (~215°C) for doing some "heavy" soldering. It ne...

Much as I admire Andreas's T61p handiwork, I wouldn't call that a FrankenPad , but rather a Norse variant, aptly named LokiPad . The amount of modification required is worse than trying to assemble good old Frankenstein ! Just for fun, read this: https://frankenblogsite.wordpress.com/2017/04/0...

Or get a (smaller/cheaper if you like) SSD plus an Ultrabay adapter for a 2nd HD and use the old (or a new) HD for storage.
Get an external USB-housing for that CD-drive that just came out, which you now can use on ANY PC/laptop with USB-port!

Looking to replace 5:4 monitor, but with what?

Currently I have a 5:4 19" HP LP1965 monitor with 1280x1024. Viewing angles are 178/178, almost identical to IPS. This is/was an excellent monitor, bought in March 2008, but it is slowly starting to show its age. I do mostly Forum web-browsing and programming on it. No gaming whatsoever, other than ...

The power consumption for NVS140M is only 10W, but the FX570M uses a whopping 35W! Hot, hot, hot... The only reason for buying FX570M would be, let me guess.... bragging rights? You...

Sorry to hear about your loss. But if you liked your R500 so much, maybe you should have gotten another R500/T500. They are cheap and cheerful nowadays.
