That's Micro$haft for you, Windows 11 "fast startup".
Should be renamed: fast destruct.
But luckily it appears that you can disable it.

Re: X131e Bad CMOS Battery - Unresponsive

Compare the wires from the old and the new battery.
Are red and/or black on the same side of the connector?
Ditto for white and white?
If not, swap the new battery wires around, it got + and - the wrong way around.

Re: ThinkPad A30. Can I replace the 80 gig IDE with an SSD?

IDE SSDs exist, but are extremely rare and expensive.
You can either replace your drive with a better/faster/larger Samsung HM160HC (IDE, 5400rpm, 160GB, fast),
or get an IDE-to-mSATA adapter with an mSATA SSD.

Re: Issue with Intel 6300 WiFi card in my T430

My T440p with Intel AC-7260 has the same problem. After it has fallen asleep it can take up to 3 minutes(!) to reconnect to the internet. So to avoid 'sleeping' I have an online radio station ( Classic FM ) running all the time, but with the sound muted as and when needed. My wife's X250 with AC-726...

Re: Internet Speed Test, who can you believe?

Been thinking about your copper cable.
If you already have fibre coming into that cabinet, I would also want fibre from there into my house!
Fibre is umpteen times faster than copper and does not care about other houses in your street/estate.
Something for a rainy sunny day!

Re: Internet Speed Test, who can you believe?

Found yet another speedtest, which gave me a surprising result. Left is the BEFORE result, right is the AFTER result. BEFORE: running the laptop (T440p) as-is. Make 2 small changes (as seen below the picture), taking only a few seconds, to see the results AFTER: major improvement! https://i.imgur.co...

Best/fastest wifi/BT card would probably be the AX200 in mini-PCIe format, such as this AX3000

Re: How new my laptop really needs to be? A guide to modern computing

Why do you think 51nb, Xytech, etc. made T700 (based on T60), X210/X2100 (based on X200)? Not to mention the likes of Framework... Another thing to consider: as you get older or retire, the use of a PC/laptop diminishes considerably. In my working days I used proper keyboards like the Northgate Omni...

Re: You can no longer install Windows 10 with a 7/8 key

Try the Micro Win 10 by Dark Reverser as mentioned here on a spare drive.
Once activated, you probably should then be able to install a 'regular' W10, OR W10 LTSC 2019/2021.

Come to think of it, maybe dump Micro$haft altogether and install Linux?

Re: Issues with USB-C ports on my T480s

AFAIK the Thunderbolt is a fast-charging port and should not be used for charging a phone. Use the other USB-C port that is used for docking. IMHO one should use a charger to charge a phone, not abuse a laptop for that. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues. Check your power set...

Adding a barrel or slim tip DC-IN socket to a USB-C laptop.

Saw this on Reddit and the idea really appeals to me for my T480! The USB-C ports are rather flimsy and most are soldered directly onto the motherboard (stupid really!). Is it possible to add a DC-IN socket for the former 20V chargers with barrel or slim tip? Looking at the USB-C pinout, you should ...

Re: LCD screen won’t switch on

On T530 it would be fuse F3 near the LCD-connector on the motherboard.
Remove charger and main battery before you work on any part of an LCD.
Test F3 for continuity with a multimeter.
It is 3A/32V/Fast, such as ERBRD3R00X.
If blown, just solder a new one on top of the old one.
