Re: IBM's wierd hinges.

Older designs had the cables from the lid to the motherboard feeding through only one opening, so the hinge was an eminent place for that.
Why left? No idea.

The T60/T61 15.4" are 16:10 widescreens. They are available in a.o. 1280×800, 1680×1050, 1920×1200 They can all run on Intel, ATI X1300/X1400/V5200 and nVidia NVS140M/FX570M The 15.6" 16:9 widescreens have a.o. 1366×768, 1600×900, 1920×1080 . Re: X230 IPS Screen Causing Eye Strain

I was a (mainframe) programmer too, before I retired, but I never had any screen smaller than 14" or 15". Its resolution in the early days was only 24 lines of 80 characters, perfect for Cobol or Assembler. That was in the good old days of the mainframe terminal. And I also always had a proper keybo...

But since the caddy is also only ~7mm high and since it is attached to the drive, it's drive+caddy that can 'flap'.
Hence the "filler".

Re: X201 i7-620M vs X201s i7-640LM

X201s (where s=slim) is slightly thinner and lighter than X201.
There is a screen option WXGA+ (1440x900), most often on the X201s.
Lids with that WXGA+ do NOT have the webcam option, only WXGA (1280x800) has that.
Performance wise X201 and X201s are the same.

Re: Can the T60 use WUXGA panels?

There are awesome WUXGA panels (1920x1200) around: Sharp LQ154M1LW2A or LQ154M1LW02 (they are CCFL). Those are/were used in several DELL laptops, they look like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141847273124 You'll notice the two metal brackets on top, and the inverter below that panel. Those need to be...

Re: Best Solid State Hard Drive or Hybrid Hard Drive for X61 ?

Because the drive is ONLY connected to the connector/laptop on one short side.
The other short side is 4 inches away and can move up/down, especially if the drive's label is pointing to the bottom of the laptop.
Both mobo- and drive-connectors are flexible and/or easily breakable when bent.

Re: X201 - W7/SSD - SHORT BATTERY LIFE

Check eBay and the likes just for: 42T4696 and then check the text/description for words like "genuine, original, OEM" etc. If you stay with non-Chinese sellers you might get lucky. And the "oldest" machines Lenovo now supports are from the X220/T420 era plus newer. Apparently anything older than 5 ...

Look for a REAL one of these:

Code: Select all

14.1 1440x900 42T0727 LED Samsung LTN141BT09
14.1 1440x900 42T0731 LED LG-Philips LP141WP3-TLA1
The LG-Philips is the better one.
Read the small print of the sellers, do NOT go for a "compatible".

As mentioned above, get the X200 manual from the HMM link above.
It has all the part numbers you need.
No mobo with 16GB RAM for that model.

You probably have a Chinese knock-off battery. My X201 runs with i5-540M CPU, SSD, 4GB RAM, W7 and the 1440x900 LED-screen from an X200s. I only use it for travel and for browsing the web and email after my desktop is shut down in the evening. It has a 9-cell battery that (when full) shows almost 9 ...

Try it and see for yourself.
A 7mm drive/caddy in a 9.5mm drivebay has extra space.
Why do you think a number of 7mm drives come with a rectangular space-filler?

Last model made by IBM: T43. T43 had SATA HDD interface, but its motherboard actually expects native PATA (IDE) HDD. So they added a SATA-to-PATA interface (bridge) between the SATA HDD and the motherboard (which expects a PATA HDD), so that the SATA HDD and motherboard can talk with each other. Th...

T43/R52 need DDR2 SODIMMs.

X250/T450/T550 trackpad on X240/T440/T540 is no problem. X240 + X250 trackpad + labor probably costs just as much as an X250. Re: Best Solid State Hard Drive or Hybrid Hard Drive for X61 ?

The caddy is only ca. 7mm high, as would be that drive.
When using standard 9.5mm rubbers you'd need that carton to fill the 2.5mm gap.
With 7-to-9.5mm rubbers you'd be good to go, but those rubbers are expensive and hard to find.
