Re: WTB - T450 or maybe similar

Look for the exact part AUO B140HAN01.2 (matte), don't accept anything else! This would be FRU 04X0436 from a T440s, which would be a drop-in for your T440. All you need to do is remove the LCD-bezel (held with clips), remove 4 screws that hold the LCD-bezel-assembly, and remove the LCD-cable before...

And definitely open it up to remove the old thermal paste between CPU/GPU and fan, clean it up properly and apply fresh thermal paste.
Plenty of how-to's on this forum.

Re: T500 keeps frying OS's.

I have had that exact same problem, even with brand new SSDs.
I could install W7 on them, but every boot had the 0x7B error.

Eventually I found this: https://tinyapps.org/blog/windows/20140 ... _swap.html
which works like a dream.

Re: WTB - T450 or maybe similar

Replace that crappy T440 clickpad with the touchpad with buttons from a T450.
And you can get IPS FHD screens for the T440 (same as T450).
For less than $100 you have a much improved T440, that is just as good as the T450/T460.
And definitely much cheaper!

Re: Anyone else ditching the Thinkpad?!

Even though I have loads of Thinkpads, I am usually on my desktop, using an external keyboard (UK-layout). Years ago I had a Northgate Omnikey 102 , exactly like this one. To this day I regret selling it. If I had a few bob to spare, I'd buy this one: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/...

Re: Deleting last post

I'm not sure but a possible limit might be: "your" last post in a thread can only be deleted, as long as you stay in that thread.

But if you can no longer delete your own post, you can always edit it and remove/replace what you want.

Re: T61 - Windows 10, Intel Turbo Memory Controller, UltraNav

In every T6x that I ever had (and there were dozens, if not hundreds), any Turbo Memory was removed due to malfunctioning sooner rather than later.
I have never noticed any difference with or without that POS.
Remove palmrest and keyboard, it's the small card under the far left KB-corner.

Re: AC WiFi card to X230 (with modified BIOS flash)

That sounds great, but are you sure? Perhaps you could post a link to your modded BIOS or EC, with instructions how to apply it? Linux (and probably MacOS) do not check for any whitelists, but Windows definitely does! And while I have your attention: Can you also remove (or bypass) the LCD/display w...

That doesn't work, as nobody can (yet) remove the X240 wifi whitelist.
You'll have to stick with official Lenovo-approved wifi cards.

Burn any life-Linux on a CD or USB-stick and try that on the R51.
The hardware should be able to easily handle both.

Ubuntu brightness control, can it be ported to Windows?

Most, if not all, Linux OSes include a working Brightness Control . E.g. Ubuntu has this one: https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/display-brightness.html I have an X240 with designated Fn/F5 (up) and Fn/F6 (down) keys. The keys work under Ubuntu (and other Linux versions), but they do NOT wor...

Re: Giving up and getting a modern Thinkpad

Simple, turn it into a Frankenpad by replacing the motherboard with a T61 mobo and matching CPU. Read my webpage for which mobo: http://theboardroom.info/t61motherboard.html You can get those from forum member TuuS (and mention my name). After that, you can reuse your OS and all its programs, unless...
