Re: X301 BIOS update won't boot

In BIOS is Security/BIOS-update/Flashing ENabled?

After this I give up.
But if interested, I'll sell you another X301 (2776-3CU) where everything works!

Re: X301 BIOS update won't boot

The point here is: looks deceive!
If you open the ISO with e.g. 7z, you find [BOOT] directory, doubleclick it to find Boot-Harddisk.img
Doubleclick that to find 0.fat with size 38 780 728.
ISO CDs normally only LOOK empty.
Maybe your CD drive is defective?

Re: X301 BIOS update won't boot

The download is 6euj42uc.iso with size 38.252 KB
It is identical in size and content to the copy I downloaded in 2014.
I strongly suggest to find a Windows machine with ImgBurn and burn a CD.
Did you set BIOS to first boot from that USB-slot? Or press F12?
Maybe the X301 USB-port(s) is/are defect?

Go to Device Mgr and check the wifi-card Power options.
Maybe it is set to "Allow to turn off to save power" or something like that. UNtick it.

Re: Thinkpad T400 GPU upgrade

The only difference between T500 and W500 is the number of RAM slots. All T500 and most W500 have only 2 RAM slots for max. 2x4=8GB RAM. W500 with quadcore CPU ex-factory comes with 4 RAM-slots for max 4x4=16GB RAM. If 8GB RAM is sufficient for your purposes, then get a T500! The next one up, W510 w...

Re: T60: AC Power LED goes off upon pressing ON Button

Remains the question: is that other CMOS maybe (near-)dead also?
If you remove all RAM and then try to boot (on AC), does it beep 1-3-3-1?
Have you tried another charger (and maybe also another wall outlet)?

Did you remove the main battery as well?
That could be the culprit.
And also check the CMOS if it still has around 3Volt.

I'd still suggest to buy another quadro CPU.

Re: T420s/T430s WQHD - Install/troubleshoot/Picture thread

From what I have seen over the years, "browngranite" never sells any "real" screens, they are THE knockoff-specialists.
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM.
Apart from that, they are usually way too expensive as well.

Re: T460 - Mobo connector for trackpad damaged

Do NOT glue it, the flexcable needs pressure from above, which glue cannot give!
Also try maybe a piece of an old credit-card or similar.
It's easy enough.
Once you have the paper/carton/credcard in place, only then put a piece of Kapton tape or similar over it.

Re: UEFI BIOS update 1.33 > 1.35 bricked my L460

This eBayer sells L460 BIOS chips.
For that price it's worth trying.
But AFAIK a new BIOS also needs a matching TPM/security chip.
I have not (yet) messed with UEFI BIOS chips, so maybe I'm wrong. Let's hope so!

Re: UEFI BIOS update 1.33 > 1.35 bricked my L460

Apparently you joined a constantly growing club! Never EVER do a BIOS update from within Windows! Download the .ISO and make a bootable CD, then update BIOS from there! It's too late now, the damage is done. Seems that in the meantime Lenovo have pulled the 1.35 update... You'd need a backup of your...

I have a T440p with the very same i7-4702MQ CPU. Upon boot, it always shows the Thinkpad logo with some text like: "To interrupt startup, press Enter". When I press F1 it goes straight into BIOS. I'd be surprised if yours doesn't. Hover your finger over F1, then boot and immediately press F1, should...

I basically/definitely suspect Micro$haft's W10.
Try a Life-CD/DVD/USB with Linux, to check if the problem persists.

Remove all power, HD/SSD/CD drives and RAM. Attach only AC, try to boot. Does it beep 1-3-3-1? If not, get another mobo. If yes, insert only 1 RAM, try again, try both slots. Also try the other module. Any luck? Using some obscure "only W10-capable" software should be a big NONO. I'm sure there is a...

Re: X220T Build [First time owner]

The HDD/SSD connectors in laptops are not made for hot-swapping, they'd wear out pretty soon.
Plus you run the risk of toasting your motherboard, doing that.
NOT recommended!
If you want to hot-swap, use a desktop or server.

Using the screwdriver that best fits in the slot, try to tighten it a bit first, then loosen it.
Wiggle back and forth.
