Re: WTB: ThinkPad 860

You can reset the passwords by booting the CD install media, selecting a maintenance shell, mounting the drive, and editing the files in /etc/security directly. Any 4.1.4 or 4.1.5 disc will work; there's no special release that's needed for the laptops. Found here: http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtop...

Re: Locked Bios T560 - How to unlock?

There is no simple, cheap method to unlock that BIOS. Lenovo will not do it for you, but they will replace and charge you exorbitantly for a new motherboard + labor. Unfortunately this has nothing to do with warranty. Try to open a case "not as described" on eBay and ask for your money back + return...

Re: Help identifying possible counterfeit battery

Yours is a fake, Chinese knock-off, whatever you want to call it.

Genuine 44++ batteries with FRU 45N1029 are made by LGC and look like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/123059388031
FRU 45N1027 is made by Sanyo.

That's about the current going price (on eBay) for such machines. Yours has a bit more RAM and HD/SSD space than most. If everything works to your liking, you'll be very happy with it. Even more so after you put in the keyboard from a T420/T520/W520/X220 with this EC-mod: https://forum.thinkpads.com...

Rather than bidding every few seconds while biting your nails, may I suggest to use a snipe next time? You place it hours, or even days, in advance, and then go do your own thing. I've been using https://www.esnipe.com/ for the last 8 years or so and am very happy with them. Read this for reasons wh...

No need.
If you like the T2500 CPU better than T2400, you can easily swap them.
Or upgrade to Core2Duo T7200/T7400/T7600 CPU, which allows 64-bit OS.
Get the T60 manual from the HMM link above.

The motherboard was only linked so you could see where the mbattery goes.
The second eBay-link was from a shop in Paris, that sells the CMOS battery you need.
Actually it's the same eBay-seller/shop that you linked!

If you go for the T440P, that still has 2 DIM-slots and a replaceable CPU.
It is available with HD, HD+ and FHD.
You only need to replace its lousy clunkpad with a proper touchpad+buttons from e.g. a T450, see this: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.p ... 12#p817112

Your machine has a crappy clunkpad and should be replaced with a proper SYNAPTICS touchpad+buttons from a T450, such as this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162912148567
Do NOT buy a crappy ALPS one that looks like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/263599461742

Re: ThinkPad t430 hard drive size confusion - customer support anger

Your ranting still makes no sense. A CMOS battery will not and cannot stop a HD or SSD from booting. If a CMOS is failing, it will tell you so by asking for Date/Time. After entering that info, or clicking Esc to bypass, it will continue booting. But if your HD or SSD is hosed, or you have problems ...
