I suggest not wasting any money on those R40.
They were made by Acer and then re-badged.
Reuse whatever parts for something better.

Re: X230 - swapping TN to IPS panel

Best HD IPS screen is the LP125WH2-SLT1 (also used in the Lenovo Twist S230).
Some come with, others without touchscreen.
Apparently you can remove the touch-part from those screens, but I never tried that, as I found the non-touch screens.

Both are easy enough, get their HMM (see HMM link above) For clunkpad , see this: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=126967 You need to remove the back-panel and the internal battery that covers the touchpad-bay. There are several different ways of removing/replacing that pad, dependin...

Download the .ZIP from: https://github.com/hamishcoleman/thinkpad-ec and read the Readme under it. After unzipping it on your drive, you'll find some sub-dirs with xxx.xxx.img.d In the matching sub-dir, check the last file-extensions. Not sure if that is SMD 0603 or 0402 size.
You might find one on another faulty motherboard.
Use a magnifier and some tweezers, a very fine-tipped soldering iron and some flux.

Re: Finally got rid of Internet Explorer

Unfortunately, you replaced the IE11 with even worse [censored] = anything WebKit based. It is slow and very resource hungry. Not sure where you get your info from, but that's totally wrong! Here's a picture of some browser comparisons: https://img.raymond.cc/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/browser...

Re: Finally got rid of Internet Explorer

I had already tried that, but it did not work.
It was saying something like I already had a newer version, so that this could not be installed. What BS!
Since I didn't want IE anymore anyway, I couldn't care less.
Good riddance to that POS piece of slow bloatware!

How else could I test the sens wire capacitor with my multimeter The sense wire is soldered to one side of capacitor C137, which goes to dock-connector DOCKB_DP3N. C137 is SCD1U10V2KX-4GP See page 38 from the X230 schematics. If you lose/blow/destroy C137 and/or you do not use the dock, it is enoug...

Re: Decision: T60p UXGA vs. X61s

After a few small chassis-modifications put a 14.1" 4:3 T61 motherboard (Intel or nVidia NVS140M) in the T60p and convert it into a true FrankenPad with Middleton's BIOS.
Up to 8GB RAM, SATA-II speed, 64-bit OS, Penryn CPU options T8100/T8300/T9300/T9500/X9000, etc.

32-bit Slimjet even though my W7-Pro OS is 64-bit.
The Pale Moon browser that I use for everything else, is also 32-bit.
Faster, less "accident-prone" and less RAM-consuming than their 64-bit versions.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have that adapter currently with US plug, but as you can just slide it out, I want the UK-plug for future use in Ireland. Much better than any bulky US-to-UK adapter. Actually I just found out that older Blackberry phones use the same plugs on their adapters. It's Black...

Finally got rid of Internet Explorer

A few days ago IE11 died on my desktop. IE11 came up with only a white screen, nothing else. Nothing I did could get it to work again! Since there is no UNinstall for this piece of crap, I manually deleted everything I could find on the drive. Only 2 files refused to be deleted: ieproxy.dll (used in...

Re: T520 battery in T530

Nope, you can do just the battery-mod with EC for all xx30 Thinkpads.
I have it on a self-booting USB-stick, so I don't need to install Linux first.
My current X230 has that EC battery-mod (and an X220 batt.), but is otherwise standard.

Welcome to the Forum.

Rather than buying them possibly and most likely non-working cable-concoctions, why not spend a few dollars more and get them a more modern flatscreen TV with HDMI?
Or have them watch those program ON that W520?

Some of those Dell D830 (and many others in that series) had the Sharp LQ154M1LW2A or LQ154M1LW02 WUXGA screens,
that I have been "promoting" for 15.4" T60/T61/T500/R500.
None better than those (and no, I am not sponsored by Sharp).
