Re: Which model for university studies and daily usage?

You can tell all HDDs to spin down after a period of non-use.
With an SSD that's not needed.

Re: A decent laptop with 3:2 aspect ratio

The Huawei Matebook E is quite affordable, although a bit limited in RAM https://www.amazon.com/Huawei-MateBook-Signature-Personal-Portfolio/dp/B0711XD7J8 Also have a look at Pop!_OS from System 76: https://system76.com/pop It will probably run nicely on even an old 15.4" T61 and T500 (both 16:10) T...

Re: Which model for university studies and daily usage?

Even though I was a programmer in a previous life, I still only type with 2 fingers.
The X230 keys are a little bit bigger than the X220 ones, perfect for me.
I have a non-backlit LiteOn KB, which is less 'smudgy' than the backlit ones.
Plus my X230 is the last of the Mohicans with a ThinkLight.

Re: Which model for university studies and daily usage?

Can I ask why you reverted to the standard keyboard & HD IPS? You say that you get longer battery life on the T440p, which battery packs do you have for both, and what is your average battery life for both? I went back to HD because my eyes are not what they used to be. And I removed the (US) X220 ...

Re: My T61p just died this morning

Hunt for the Sharp LQ154M1LW2A or LQ154M1LW02 WUXGA LCD, IMHO there are no better screens for a 15.4 model!
It was widely used in the Dell 800 series and many people on the Forum use it in their T61.

Re: Which model for university studies and daily usage?

Welcome to the Forum. I have both and it's hard to say which one I prefer. My X230 had the IPS FHD-mod and the X220 keyboard. But I have swapped the FHD back to an IPS HD LCD and went back to a non-backlit X230 keyboard. It runs W7 off an mSATA SSD in the WWAN-slot and has a 500GB HDD in the main ba...

Welcome to the Forum. The X230 can charge any non-official battery after you mod the EC, info here: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=120776 T440s can use the same batteries as the X240 (external 3-cell 24W 68 and 6-cell 72W 68+ ). It is recommended to use genuine Lenovo batteries, un...

Re: Surprise addition to collection: A21m *PICS*

Great looker!
My first IBM laptop also was an A21m, back in 2001 if I remember correctly.
~2 Years later I sold it and got a T23 instead.
Still have that T23 (plus a few dozen of other models).
It is running XP/SP3, never updated, and is only ever used for SVP/CT removal.

More space can be freed up by deleting ONLY the contents of:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download (possibly a few GB!)
C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Local\Temp

Only a few files in Temp cannot be deleted, just press Skip for those.

At least.
SATA III = 6GB/s
The M.2 WWAN slot, depending on version, can be up to 32GB/s.

All 3 work at least at SATA III speed.
The only capacity limit (all 1TB or more) is their current market availability and more important: your wallet.

Re: Lenovo T430 Black Screen / Blank Screen but monitor works

Since you can still get into BIOS, I suggest you remove your password until you have sorted the problem. Looking at that picture, it's either a loose cable connection (at motherboard or at LCD), or more likely, a screen gone bad. Does your laptop have Intel/Nvidia/Optimus? If so, go into BIOS and se...

Welcome to the Forum.

Can you see a vague picture if you point a bright torch at the LCD from an angle?
The backlight fuse may have gone (somewhere on the mobo near the LCD-cable connector).

Re: Where to find the dark grey foam strip/tape used in older Thinkpads?

Sounds like an almost impossible-to-find item, but check this out: https://www.preson.com/products/vf1300-series/
I have used Kapton tape to put such fans together, it's heat-resistant, but not 'hairy'.
And widely available.

I'm sure you have heard by now that ThinkPads are NOT made for gaming.
Assuming you're talking Centigrade/Celsius, then you still have some reserve before you hit the dangerz0ne, but not much.
If you want to stay/play with Lenovo, look at their Legion laptops.

Re: Panel swap in T530 / storage upgrade

In some models, if the screen is HD (1366x768), you'll need another FHD LCD-cable. For all: if the screen is HD+ (1600x900), you can use the same cable for FHD. Supposedly the best FHD LCD is B156HW01 V.4 (matte) or V.7 (glossy). My X230 runs with an mSATA 250GB SSD with W7 in the WWAN-slot, and a 5...
