Re: Compatible CPUs for T61p

If money is no object, you decide. But the difference between T9300 and T9500 is so minimal, not worth it IMHO. http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Duo-T9500-vs-Intel-Core2-Duo-T9300 Also, machines of that age should not be overclocked any longer! I have built about 80 FrankenPads (15" T60 with 14.1...

Re: Compatible CPUs for T61p

Before you install a Penryn, you'll first need to install Middleton's BIOS.
After that, the best and most affordable option would be the T9300 CPU.
X9000 is expensive overkill, that will also run very hot.

Are you wearing a metal bracelet?
If so, that may cause the Hal effect sensor or its magnets (in the lid or the palmrest) to 'think' the lid is closed.

Did you remove both charger and battery before you replaced the LCD?
If not, you have blown the backlight fuse, most likely F11.

Re: Grumpy Old Man Wonders: Why do new Thinkpads need updates right out of the box??

One of the reasons why I don't buy anything 'technical', like computers or cars, in new condition! For one, you save a fair amount of money and you can check what you get before you buy it. My 'latest' laptop (X250) is from 2015, bought in 2019. It only needed a new fan (fan error) and another base ...

Looks may deceive!
I fixed numerous T23s on which those inductors looked OK, but did need resoldering.

There are plenty of forum members who have IBM and Lenovo schematics (I have over 100, all obtained for free).
There are also plenty of online sellers of IBM/Lenovo (and any other brand) schematics.

Re: ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen (20KH) does not turn on anymore

If you can still get into the BIOS, try this. To disable the built-in battery, do the following: 1. Restart your computer. When the logo screen is displayed, immediately press F1 to enter ThinkPad Setup. 2. Select Config ➙ Power. The Power submenu is displayed. 3. Select Disable built-in battery and...

Re: T460s won't power up.

Remove both batteries and the charger, then hold down the Power button for ~20 seconds, then plug in only charger and try to boot.
If OK, get new batteries.
If not, let us know.

Tried it without floppy drive as well?

Really surprised about that ghosting. I "went through" about 80 of those and have never seen any ghosting. Furthermore, those screens are -among others- used in the Boeing Dreamliner cockpit. I doubt that the aircraft industry would use screens with such problems. Maybe there was a bad batch at one ...

Re: Dead M91p. Recovery possible?

Try and get the schematics for it.
On the mobo fuses are (usually) marked as F1, F2, F3 etc. and often you also find their value printed nearby.
Use a multimeter to check those fuses for Continuity.
If blown, piggyback-solder a new one on top of the old one.

Re: Any red flags on this T500 Laptop purchase?

AFAIK W10 registers its license to a specific laptop, in your case that T500.
Such a license does not go with the owner, it goes with the laptop.
So even if you yourself would reinstall W10 on that T500 from scratch, it automatically 'picks up' that same license.
