Re: Any more 'lively' places for ultra-legacy thinkpad chit chat?

@RealBlackStuff: on the subject of new threads. Where would I put a thread discussing in general the use and compatibility of a NAS with old (and not quite as old) Thinkpads/OSs + imaging them/backing them up over network? .. only in Off-Topic ? I'm afraid so, because a NAS is not 'just' a Thinkpad...

Re: Any more 'lively' places for ultra-legacy thinkpad chit chat?

A reasonable explanation would be that a 'lively' discussion usually happens if the subject is of actual interest. There was a lot more discussion when these items first came out, but once they've been around for a while, interest dwindles. Only natural, I'd say, because not everyone is interested i...

Re: My ,,new,, T61p - future upgrades ?

I have used (and still use) ImgBurn for donkeys years, never a problem. For BIOS updates (or important backups) I recommend a low burning speed of 4x or 6x. I still have about 50 new CDs and DVDs (all TDK brand) for just such cases. A Penryn mobo with unmodded BIOS still only runs at SATA I (1.5Gp/s...

Re: Docking station SSD issue

AFAIK an eSATA port needs an eSATA drive, or a SATA drive in an eSATA caddy/adapter.
With SATA to eSATA, the SATA does not get power (and needs an external power supply), hence your problem.

Re: X250 Going from i3 to i5 or i7

Replacement will be a drop-in.
The SSD should work without (hardware) problem.
However, I am not familiar with W10 (and never will be!) but I assume Micro$haft might protest a bit.
You might need to check your BIOS settings for the FPR.

Re: X220: Computer won't boot after momentary CMOS battery disconnect

CMOS batteries keep the BIOS-settings 'alive', such as date/time, boot-drive preference, too many details to just list here. (look in the BIOS to get an idea).
If CMOS is not working, booting (and other items) will be slowed down, because so much needs to be recalculated from 'scratch'.

Re: X220: Computer won't boot after momentary CMOS battery disconnect

There is absolutely NO reason to disconnect/remove the CMOS when you replace the thermal paste.
By now those CMOS batteries are about 10 years old, time to replace them.
For a cheap how-to see here: viewtopic.php?p=863727#p863727
(The X220 needs CR2032.)

Re: Thinkpad X240 Touchpad Problem

Those flatcable slots can be problematic if the cable is not inserted properly.
Maybe carefully clean the cable-ends with isopropyl alcohol, let them dry for a few minutes, then try again?
What happens if you only disconnect the touchpad?

Re: Having Trouble Re-Installing Windows 95 On 380XD

AFAIK computers of that age only boot from a formatted HDD (with a working OS), or from a floppy.
For a fresh install, to get access to a CDROM you need a bootable floppy with the proper CDROM driver.

After applying Middleton's BIOS an Intel AC-7260 will work fine (not sure about BT).
You'll need the mini-pcie version plus a 1/2-size bracket, like this: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/392592786962

Make sure to remove power and battery first, then check all the (LCD) cable connections.
I'm not familiar with this T430 LCD-mod, but I found some info that maybe of use.

Re: X250 Going from i3 to i5 or i7

I have an X250 with i5-5300U, FHD-touch, 8GB RAM and W7-Pro. Runs fine with anything I throw at it. i5 will definitely see a major improvement over an i3. But I doubt that i7 will bring much advantage over an i5 on these machines. From the CPU options, avoid the i5-4300U (old HD 4400 GPU and max 8GB...

Re: 380XD Trouble, Need Some Help.

Those CMOS all have the same voltage. Remove your current CMOS. The CR2330 has diameter 23 mm, height 3mm. Then get a CR2025 (dia. 20, h 2.5) or CR2032 (dia. 20, h 3.2), whichever is available. Then cut away the plastic around the old CMOS and tear off the soldered contacts. Make sure to not damage ...

Re: need help finding a part number

Only problem is, the M73 Tiny does not have any 'internal' HDMI port, it's too 'old' for that.
(M700/M900 have such a HDMI port option).
The 'optional connector' above the VGA-port on the rear is only for another USB2.0 or Serial port.
The only option is the DP to HDMI adapter 03T7001.
