WTB Battery for x301
The battery in my x301 (type 2776) only lasts about 5-10 minutes, so I am looking for a better one. Yes to both the CPU and the wireless card. There are a couple of "N" wireless cards that would work in a T4x, you'll need to apply the "no-1802" hack, though. This is what I have in my T43pSF, 300Mb/s on the 2.4GHz spectrum, two antennae: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN861N-Wireless-Adapter-300...

Re: Upgrade T40?
1) You could go with a Dothan CPU instead of your present Banias one. PM 745 (Intel SL7EN) which runs at 1.8 GHz is likely the best bang for the buck. 4) Any IBM (Atheros-chipped) mini PCI wireless card will be superior to what you have now, as will Intel 2200BG. Total cost for these two upgrades s...

Upgrade T40?
My T40 was not just my first Thinkpad, but the first laptop of any kind that I bought (used, about 1 year old, 11 years ago this fall), as well as being the most expensive laptop I've ever bought, and I really liked it. So even though I haven't used it much the last few years, I can't bring myself t...

Thanks for your helpful post, which I just saw! I am still mainly using Xp, but have downloaded and installed Slacko Puppy Non-PAE 5.60 (using the Windows installer, found here: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/loqca478iljiz/560), so now the x40 is dual-boot. I am happy with it so far. ---Puppy Linux...

ca. 100 GB or more, preferrably less than $100 - 150.

Thanks for your response. Would you be able to give some examples of inexpensive SSDs that would work in the z60m and that you would recommend? It will work. However, hybrid drives have gotten very mixed reviews and I'd personally go for a SSD, especially at today's prices. Your machine, your call.

Will a Seagate Hybrid ST1000LM014 work in a z60m?
I have a z60m with a Toshiba MK8032GSX 80 GB HD. I would like to replace the HD with a larger and faster HD. Will a Seagate Hybrid ST1000LM014 (http://www.computer.is/vorur/7900/) work in a z60m (without any BIOS modification)? Or is there a better (and less expensive) option?

Because the wireless card was never replaced.
The new wireless card got inserted into the WWAN slot and probably can't be read from there.
Now, what does Device Manager say about your Ethernet and Bluetooth?
