*Argh*
Got it.

I had VMware running Ubuntu in background.
Closed it, now works fine.

These newish CoreDuo processors just allow you to do way too many things at the same time... ;)

R60 BIOS Update CD ROM

Hello, I still have old BIOS Version 1.05 on my R60 and just wanted to update it to the latest 2.20 Version: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-64578 But - I can't burn the CD Image using NERO 6 SE! It fails during the burning process with "Illegal B...

Uhm - hey ;) I had two T60 before my R60 - I returned both of them because of the high pitch FAN noise you can read about in other threads (NOT the power regulation noise... this is something different) Well, to compare: The fans on my T60 did not turn off once they were on and they did not get lowe...

Just very quick response as I don't have that much time right now - no guarantee for well verbalized sentences ;) ( Hey - at last I am using my Thinkpad what it is made for - WORKING ;) ) I don't need a completely silent machine - of course it is nice to have a silent machine - but if the fan is onl...

Maybe it is worth to mention that the X1400 is NOT to blame. It runs up to 30°C (usually 20°C) cooler in the R60 if you turn on the fan manually. Usually it is off and only kicks in after an hour of working. Usual temp is around 40°C to 44°C... I had two T60s before - one with X1300 and one with X14...

I had this on T60, too. I got a R60 now and this one is quiet!

No I'm not sure if the speed measurements are correct. The Problem is: It seems like NHC and ATI Tool both don't work with the IBM Drivers? I can't read out the frequencies with both of them and I can not enable Powerplay in NHC! (the checkbox is grayed out) I already had some other drivers from ATI...

ATI powerplay on AC doesn't work after resume from standby

Hi! Well, I have a R60 - but as its GPU and ATI drivers are identical to T60, I post this in the forum with more traffic! :) The Problem: Powerplay works on Battery AND after a reboot when on AC (! Yes it works, see GPU Temps below) , but it does NOT work properly when resuming from standby or suspe...

In fact I had two T60s before my R60. They both (X1400 and X1300) had >=64°C to 74°C GPU Temp when idle and hit 80 to 92°C under load. But that was not why I returned them. I returned them because of the fan that made a strange high frequency sound and this gave me headaches. (there is a thread here...

Yes I enjoy my R60 very much! (but I only have it a few days now) So far I can not reproduce your heat problems at all! (I have asked several other R60 users before I bought mine and you were the only one who reported heat problems...) Here are my temps after more than one hour of normal working (su...

OK now I have a R60 9462 - 77G with T2500, X1400, 1.5GB RAM, 100GB 7K2 HDD! 8) and it does NOT make any noise like the T60! :D It is a very silent and cool machine! The GPU idles as low as 39° to 45°C when I _manually_ turn on the fan - it runs on the lowest speed, 2700 RPM. It is very silent in thi...

Hi! Thanks for your reply! Hmmm. The AC Adaptor that came with the T60 I had first got rahter hot, too... but only under load. It got extremely hot while the Thinkpad was on and the Battery was charging... What AC Adaptor is shipped with the R60? Maybe a less powerful version than with the T60? Nois...

OK - seems like anybody has this noise on a R60?

You can also write that you can not hear anything from the machine of course
This would also be interesting for me

Sure I am not the only one that can hear this :) Would be strange otherwise... Standing next to the 1.000.000W Speakers on a Rock Festival would be a good idea to solve the problem  The sounds that other notebooks make (also the thinkpads make these noises, but not that loud...) come from th...

Hi! Referring to this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=26346 I'd like to know if anyone has heard such high pitch noises from the fan of the R60?
