[SOLD] FS: T440s, 12GB memory, 1920x1080 LED screen, i7-4600 CPU, 128GB SSD
I purchased the laptop direct from Lenovo mid-2014, It's since been upgraded to 12GB of memory and a 128GB transcend solid state drive (in the M.2 slot - the main 2.5" hard drive bay is currently empty so you can easily add a massive spinning disk or a larger form factor SSD.) Has the high-res 1920x...

Hmm. All of my T420s batteries are "Lenovo" manufactured... but you're saying that they have to be both "Lenovo" *and* the new/current/secured model?
That sucks. Oh well... ebay here I come I guess... ;-(

are batteries interchangeable between T420s and T430s?
I'm reading conflicting reports... anyone know for sure whether the batteries that I have for my T420s (both the 6-cell 'built-in' and the 3-cell ultrabay) will work in a new T430s (both 's' models)...? I'm upgrading to the T430s and need to know whether I'll have to replace either or both of these ...

Does anyone know the procedure to get this replaced? Re: T420s battery loses capacity very quickly...
With these batteries, once the capacity is "gone" it's "gone forever"... you can recalibrate the GAUGE, but over time these devices lose the ability to store charge. The main question is whether they're losing charge "too quickly" which is what I was asking about... open power manager and see how ma...

Power manager is reporting that my T420s (6-cell in-body battery) is reduced to a full charge capacity of ~35W/hr after only 30 cycles (!!!!!)... can this possibly be correct? The design capacity is >43 W/hr, which implies that in 30 cycles the battery has lost 18% of it's capacity. This seems awful...

Arrived with my new T420s, I replaced with an SSD, so I don't need this one. It's brand new, the only use is whatever Lenovo did for the initial install.
This is the zippy 7200rpm version : Hitachi part # is HTS723232A7A364 or 0J13233
Lenovo part # is 42T1158/42T1159.

are ultrabay devices common from T400 --> T420s?
I've got a T400 with the following ultrabay devices: the CD/DVD burner, the hard drive SATA adapter, and a battery.
Are any/all/none of these devices usable in the T420s?
I looked through the lenovo webpage but if there's a decoder ring there somewhere, I couldn't find it...
thanks!

To be honest, I hadn't really thought about an SSD, the price premium seems pretty big and I'm not sure how much I care about a little more speed. But I suspect it's the kind of thing that has to be used to be appreciated, and it would be hard to go back once you'd gotten used to it. Reasons why th...

There are links here to the hardware reference manuals so you could look there and see for yourself how much work is involved... but at l...

Re: SSD vs. WD Scorpio Black vs. Other
A good SSD is night-and-day faster in "real human terms" than any spinning disk. The random access speeds are what most people actually notice -- the machines boot and launch applications infinitely faster. I bought one of the very first Intel 160GB drives and still have it in my T400 -- my coworker...

I did a similar mod on my T400: I swapped the company-purchased craptacular 1280x800 14" panel for a very nice Samsung 1440x960 panel. Both are CCFL because I didn't want the hassle of changing the connector types and all that. The swap was relatively easy *IF* you're comfortable mucking about with ...

Re: T410s battery, docking station, and power adapter
Does this mean that the docking stations that I have for my T400 (yes, I have 4 of them as I'm spread across four different worksites) will take the T410s?
One of the reasons I'd been holding off from the T410s was the cost/hassle of replacing all my docking stations.

try this in windows... go to network connections, right click your wireless network adapter.
select properties... you should get a popup and you should be able to "configure" the adapter itself...click on "configure" ... your driver may or may not have an option to change the MAC address.

You can use the unix "dd" utility to do a sector-by-sector copy of your existing HDD to the new SSD. This has worked quite well for me in the past and (nicely) avoids having to re-install, etc. Of course, if it's a brand new machine without a lot of stuff installed, etc... then it's probably easier ...

Replacing a spinning hard drive with an SSD is the single greatest improvement you can give a PC. This is even MORE true with laptops, since their hard drives are generally slower than desktop drives. It's even MORE true than that with 1.8" form factor hard drives like the standard one in the T410s ...

4GB of memory should be more than enough to run win7 for 99% of users. If you routinely handle extremely large data sets you may actually need more, but I'd expect that those users already know who they are. (also, if you want/need to go >4GB you have to run the 64b version of win7...)

SATA 150 vs SATA 300 is basically meaningless for current devices. Even the fastest SSDs can't currently saturate a SATA150 connection (although they are getting close). The performance benefits from an SSD vs legacy HDD are the near instantaneous random access and much higher read/write speeds for ...
