i don't doubt you guys are right, but i'm not understanding this - when i bought the T60, there was a sale that made it less expensive to get the it with a discrete graphics card then to buy the T60p. on the ATI/AMD site, i see what sure looks like plug-in graphics cards (http://ati.amd.com/products...

advice sought: changing graphics card
running a T60 with a Lenovo supplied ATI X1400 GPU, but would like to switch it out to a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3850. i've built desktops before, but this notebook stuff has me a bit stumped. 1) is it even possible? 2) where do you buy the cards (i did a bit of searching and the only way i can see t...

Issue with troubadix TPFControl v0.50
Talked to him a bit via PM and he asked me to post the issue... WinXP SP3 (note that SP3 may have something to do with it) Using the alternative 'acpiecnl.sys' driver in the '\TPFanControl\optional\acpiecnl' directory and merging the 'acpiecLogOff.reg' file causes windows to become unresponsive for ...

Tweaking Default Display Brightness Via FN + Home/End Keys
When you use the FN + Home/End keys to adjust display brightness, there's 8 possible steps. Can more be added? Or can the existing steps be tweaked?
I looked a little through the registry and couldn't find anything. What i'm trying to do is add more steps on the darkening side for batt operation.

Lenovo S/W Alternitives
T60 / WIN XP When i first fooled around with the proprietary Lenovo stuff (access connections, s/w update, etc., etc) i liked much of it, but as time went by i realized a lot of it seems to be bloated eye candy and that one can do most of the same things in windows without the Lenovo stuff. I have m...

Hi Rob Playing DVD's is no problem whatsoever and there's several media players that can handle it, including subtitles. When i install windows, i completely remove WMP, WMP 6.4 and the ability to upgrade as well. I do keep the codecs sometimes, but that's optional. Then i install the k-lite mega co...

One of the first things i did when i got my T60 was to wipe the drive and install an nLite'd XP Pro (see post above). It still took quite a while to boot and there was a lot of services and background apps running due to the abundance of proprietary TP software, so i started dumping a lot of that. I...

if you'd like to try a very small, fast and free alternitive: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/ - it's free, but i'll call it 'nagware' as it does display a non-obtrusive button linking to the full version (which writes PDF files i guess). it's the only piece of nagware i install and it works very well....

XP can boot very quickly and be trimmed down to run on very old hardware, if you want to use it. i'd suggest doing a custom build using nLite (http://nliteos.com/) and gut out everything you don't need/want (a typical install for me is 1/2 the size and i have all the functionality i want). after tha...

@dsigma6 - there's a lot of other FF optimizations if you want to cut down on the resources it uses. Since you mentioned memory problems, i would install the Leak Monitor extension . This will test for some memory leaks that are common with extensions. Also check your extensions here: http://kb.mozi...

#1, 2 - often, even though s/w prompts to reboot, you don't need to in order to be able to use it. other times you can just kill the explorer process and restart it. if the s/w is installing some sort of low-level driver, then you may not have a choice. #3 - i agree 100 PERCENT WITH THAT ONE!!! that...

@dsigma6 - don't sweat it, it's really easy. make sure FF is closed: in your user profile directory, something like "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles", navigate to the "chrome" directory and you should have a userChrome.css file. or userChrome-example...

Does anyone know how to eliminate the small preview icon that appears on a tab if the window contains an image? The mouse gets very jumpy on the T23, even if only 1 window with an image is opened. you'll want one of these, not both. /* Don't display icons in tabs */ .tabbrowser-tabs .tab-icon { dis...

Re: thoughts on a "better built T60p"
Do most of you blow away the hidden partition and install a clean Windows XP SP2? What parts do you then install from a clean XP? this is something i'm interested in as well (as a prospective T60 owner). And then yet, least desirable seems installing Windows XP as the host O/S and then VMWare for S...

The fact that drivers are available for Linux, BSD, etc., is no indication whatsoever as to the privacy concerns with TPM as anyone can write drivers for those platforms. Whether or not it can be simply disabled is still unclear to me. Right now it claims to be a hardware/software solution, but ther...

i don't yet own a laptop (which is why i'm here - i'm researching), so i don't know how feasible this may be because of proprietary s/w, but the best way to clean something that embeds it self as deep as Norton is probably to start fresh. If all you have is a back-up partition though, i don't know t...

Questions about TP before buying...
From everything i've read so far it looks like the TP is the way to go. I'm considering the T60 and have a few questions if anyone would care to help me out... 1) IPS - i've seen this LCD spec before, but don't recall what it means. Is this a different technology than TFT or something? Is this avail...
