Wow, ok thanks much for the reponses; I had a feeling it was not likely to be an easy mod... too bad.

Possible to swap W520 FHD display for IPS?
I have a W520 with which I'm overall quite satisfied-- aside from the FHD display that I was hoping would be sufficient for color work, which it sadly is not. I'm seeing that the new W541 and W550s models come with a 3k IPS display option, which is making me highly envious-- and given that I'm very ...

Re: Calibrating W520 panel w/ dispcalGUI
After doing some further research, for anyone who might be interested, the following thread is immensely helpful: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2983567?page=3 Using my i1display 2 with the dispcalgui software, the W520 panel is actually usable with respect to color; the built-in calibration ...

Calibrating W520 panel w/ dispcalGUI
Thanks to some wonderfully helpful threads on this forum, I was made aware of the amazing calibration tool dispcalGUI. I have an i1Display2 that I'm using with the Argyll drivers and dispcalGUI. I'm curious for those out there who may have used this software with their W520, what did you select in t...

Re: Question for anyone familiar with Exhange Server
Thanks for the response, Temetka; we do indeed host the exchange server on site. I was wondering if in fact nothing would need to be done on the Exchange side, given that DNS will resolve "domain.com" and therefore Exchange would be unaffected by a move to a different web hosting provider and/or DNS...

Question for anyone familiar with Exhange Server
I would like to migrate my organization's primary website to a different hosting provider, which is a straight-forward process, however we also have an exchange server that handles mail for this domain. Our domain registrar is Network Solutions and our DNS appears to be handled by our current hostin...

Re: Basic question about data recovery
Just to provide an update here-- fortunately, I was able to recover all data from the corrupted drives with the help of GDB-NTFS (needless to say, I have learned a hard lesson about playing "fast and loose" with something like DBAN, ha.) I'm on Windows 7 and using the disk management utility, as sug...

Re: Basic question about data recovery
Thanks RealBlackStuff, that is extremely helpful-- and reassuring. Given that reconstructing the partition table seems like no simple task, I'll go forward with recovery via GDB. Another question though-- I opened up the disk management console, and I'm seeing the disk listed in black with the whole...

Re: Basic question about data recovery
Here's another question though-- once I've recovered all my files, and I want to wipe & reformat the corrupted drive, what software can I use given that I can't actually see the drive in Windows (and thus it doesn't seem to have a drive letter)?

Re: Basic question about data recovery
Thanks for the responses guys; something I should add is that I know the corruption in this case is my own fault-- I did something extraordinarily stupid while prepping my main drive for a fresh OS install, doing a wipe with DBAN that I put into "auto" mode, and saw to my horror that it began wiping...

Basic question about data recovery
I have a 2TB external USB drive that has been corrupted-- i.e. the drive is recognized by windows when attached as it shows in the device manager, but it does not show in "my computer" as an available drive. After doing some research, I found and purchased the program "GetDataBack for NTFS" which fo...

A request for general feedback on Windows 8...
I would consider myself highly adaptable when it comes to embracing software/OS/interface updates of all kinds; I've been with Windows since 3.1 and I've never hesitated in upgrading immediately with successive versions, even in the case of Vista (with which I never had a real problem btw). However,...

Re: email account hijacked -- how?
thanks for the response RealBlackStuff; I read a bit about email spoofing, and I'm assuming some kind of a worm got into my account. email account hijacked -- how?

USB thumb drive dead?
I have Kingston D101 G2 16GB USB thumb drive that seems to have crapped out on me-- on my W520 Windows 7 machine, upon plugging in the thumb drive, explorer locks up for a bit and after a minute or so a dialog box appears saying that the drive needs to be formatted in order to be used; I then try to...

not sure if this is what you're experiencing, but I ordered a W520 w/ Bluetooth and it wasn't showing up at all until I did the following (taken from Lenovo support forums): Download the keyboard hotkey drivers and install them. It'll allow you to use the Functions at the top of your keyboard, then ...

W520: adjust power settings for ultrabay HDD?
I've replaced the optical drive in my W520 with an HDD, and I'm wondering if it's possible to adjust power management settings for this particular drive? I'm using the HDD pretty much exclusively as a data/backup drive, and would like it to spin down when idle; I see the "turn off hard disk after......

Re: recommended HDD for W520 ultrabay?
here's one final question on the topic of an ultrabay HDD-- how can I access power management settings for this particular device? i.e. to spin down the drive when idle after x minutes? Within the "advanced settings" of the power options, I see "turn off hard disk after..." for battery and ac, but i...

Re: recommended HDD for W520 ultrabay?
good point on powering down the HDD via power management. think I will go for the ultrabay option with the scorpio black drive. as far as comparing the data transfer speeds between the two options-- i.e. external usb 3.0 drive and ultrabay HDD @7200RPM-- would there be a huge/noticeable difference?

recommended HDD for W520 ultrabay?
I'm currently debating whether I should just get a portable external usb 3.0 drive for added storage & backup to complement my Intel SSD in the main bay, or get the caddy and a 9.5mm SATA drive for the Ultrabay. I'm leaning towards the latter and just wondering if anyone can recommend a good HDD wit...
