hi dsalyers, i guess setting the SATA mode to "compatibility" lets windows xp find my hdd and copy some files required for installation to my hard disk. I have never re-installed from recovery disks, so I don't know if that will be the same problem as when you try it from a Windows XP installation disk. But, I do know what your problem is with the Windows Installation Disk. The basic problem, is Windows XP installation disks do not support the SATA ...

I use WIndows XP and Linux (Fedora Core 6), and I don't have any problems, nor did I have to do anything special for mine to work well. So, I would call Lenovo (assuming it is still under warrently).

Re: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N is reading DVDs very slow

Any suggestions about this problem, please? If this only happens on burned media, I would reburn the DVD at 1x. Then check to see if the drive has an issue with the DVD. If it still doesn't work it may be an issue with the DVD drive. I have had issues with burning DVDs at the maximum speeds support...

So how does the Z61T stack up with the T60P? Major differences I can think of. T60p Z61t 15.4/14 WSXGA+/SXGA+ 14.1 WXGA (titanium lid available) ATI FireGL Intel Graphics Memory card reader Webcam option smaller battery Overall it looks to me that the Z61t is supposed to be very mobile, and will li...

Don't recall the model but I believe it had a 15.4 screen. The Z61m is probably what you saw, both the Z61m and Z61p have the headphone jacks on the side. The only difference (that I know of) between the z61m and the z61p is that the z61p has a WUXGA screen and a FireGL graphics card. Also the Z61m...

If you read Intel's chipset specsheet http://download.intel.com/design/mobile/datashts/30921904.pdf , you'll see on page 22 that 4GB can be used at 400, 533 and 667MHz. What stops that being available to the OS is how the device space is mapped onto memory. There are several ways to do that, even u...

1280x800 resolution is a piece of sh*t. Even old Thinkpad 600 has more pixels in screen. Where this world is going to? It is just a matter of preference most people want WXGA, because it is the cheapest, and have no need for anything better. But, Lenovo does offer WSXGA+, and rumours are in the sum...

Yeah, I agree, don't buy generic RAM. But like I said earlier, the RAM I was trying in my old Tecra 9000 was Micron, and it still didn't work... bizarre. You could very well be correct. But the article says it a little differently (although it may not be correct), i.e., you can have 8 chips on one side and it would still be high density RAM You are right.... I missread. I guess I am amazed about two things, 1) that there are that many memory modules...

Sometimes it does matter. I tried to upgrade the memory on an old Toshiba Tecra 9000 with high-density Micron RAM (which had the same specs as what I had in the laptop previously), and it didn't work -- it needed low density memory. It may not make a difference with newer chipsets like the 945PM, b...

When buying a ram stick, will the spec say it's single-sided or double-sided? Any advantage of one over another? Thanks :) There should be no difference to the user. The fact that it has ram chips on one or both sides only affects how the ram will internally decode the address to pull data from the...

128MB it self is plenty for just the frame buffer of a WUXGA as a single frame buffer only consumes 6.6MB (assuming 24bit color). However, you will likely have double or triple buffering. Plus, significant memory is needed by the graphics card to perform different rotations and other matrix opertaio...

It's also unclear what the memory limit is. With a 32-bit OS, you are limited to 3GB of RAM as 1GB of the 4GB address space is used by devices. With a 64-bit OS, nobody has given (or maybe I just haven't seen) a definitive word on whether 3GB or 4GB is actually usable on this machine. There could b...
