WTB: 41W5204 (14.1" long fan M10 assembly) + thermal gr
Fan in my T42p (2373-GVU) sounds like a meat grinder; I was able to get some WD40 in but this is just prolonging the inevitable. Anyone have a spare? Know of any good parts distributors? Also need some thermal grease to reseat the CPU/GPU...

BIOS update failing
I cannot seem to update my BIOS via the System update. As soon as I click "next" I get the following error message: "Driver Loading failed. The Utility cannot proceed."

basically that you login to a domain, you run their antivirus (which is a terrible program, i think Trend Micro made it), you give full administrative access (using the whole Microsoft Big Brother package - SMS, WMI, etc.), you allow them to run scripts that push updates and certain software package...

they have a weird policy...we technically don't own these computers until we graduate, but the cost of the computer is included in tuition, which i am of course paying regularly  i've asked a couple of the cool guys in computing who say i am free to do just about whatever i want, but they will...

T60 (2007MS2) screen resolution changing when closing lid
I think this has been posted here before, but there seemed to be no clear resolution to this issue: When I close my lid (I have it set to "Do nothing" in the power manager), the resolution will change...looks like it goes to SVGA or something lower. This is annoying for several reasons, mainly that ...

Interfacing with the internal accelerometers?
Recently, I came across these developments for the MacBook Pro: http://slappingturtle.com/wordpress/?p=12 http://pallit.lhi.is/palli/dashlevel/ These interesting and potentially feature-extending applets utilize the new MacBook's built-in accelerometer, much like that of Thinkpads for years. I know ...

Great work on the CG, but as with just about every video today that integrates real footage with CG items, the physics is glaringly wrong. Is there not a single graphic designer who has taken high-school physics? (and passed?) Take a look at the third "tape" - the ThinkPad is falling at a constant r...

The image won't work as a link...but it will if you actually copy and paste the link into the address bar. Since that's kind of a hassle, and the image is gigantic, I just resized it and put it up on imageshack (great free picture hosting, by the way....consider it over geocities next time): http://...

Well, I finally got a true laptop case for my T42p. This is a Targus Koskin Standard 15" Notebook Case (KOS301), and I got it thanks to a SlickDeal from CompUSA (they are $9.99 after a $15 mail-in rebate through Saturday the 11th). Interestingly, just a few hours after someone posted a full guide for installing 10.4.4 from the System Rescue DVD, the OSX86Project forums were served with a DCMA notice and shut down. Apple seems to have snapped:

Well, it's a long story but here's a synopsis: Apple decides to convert to Intel processors, rather than the previous PowerPC (they require different sets of instructions, that's why software built for a PPC will not run on an Intel, and vice-versa). Thus, they must rework their operating system (OS...

Excellent deal on 512MB DDR or DDR2 Kingston RAM - $35
Just wanted to alert all you potential upgraders out there - Circuit City is running a sale on their Kingston 512MB DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM Notebook Memory....ends up as $35 after mail-in rebate (Source: http://www.slickdeals.net/#p6935) I just got a stick the other day and boy let me tell you, from 512MB...

T42p (FireGL) graphics card failure?
Well, up until now my T42p (2373-GVU) has been nothing short of flawless. (Hence my lack of a need to post on these forums much  ). However, just today after I got home from class, I hit resume and the usual desktop bounced back up...after less than 5min of replying to an email, the screen com...

Perhaps this what you're looking for? http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-61154 If cost is not an issue, then go for it...it's completely compatible with Thinkpads and will do exactly what you want. However, I'm sure there are much cheaper alternatives out there, that...

This is more of a hack-job solution, but it makes a bit of difference ergonomically speaking: I place a 3-ring binder (1.5") under the Thinkpad, with the spine of the binder at the back of the notebook...it serves to elevate the screen as well as increase the angle of the keyboard at the same time. ...
