I have the intel 80 GB G2 SSD (recommended) in my x60s and it works great. But yeah, the sequential reads are capped - not that it matters that much.

Re: Where to enter supervisor password?
Thanks The thing that turned me from activating passphrase in the beginning was that when you try to activate it you get a warning, "If passphrase is enabled, the 3 passwords are stored in secure format. Therefore, you will not be able to swap and use this hard disk with other PCs that do not suppor...

Re: Where to enter supervisor password?
Thanks! The thing confusing me I guess was partially that the power-on password worked in that scenario, so when the supervisor password didn't work I assumed that I wasn't supposed to work. And the reason for why it didn't work is because the supervisor password has a weird limit of seven character...

Where to enter supervisor password?
So... I went into the BIOS, decided to put some BIOS-passwords on my x60s. Didn't want any password for the harddrive but I wanted to restrict what people could do with the BIOS. The supervisor-password description seemed nice. So I enabled that and entered a password. I also wanted a boot password ...

I really do believe that some of the palmrest heat solution can be attributed to the better power management features of Vista. In the battery manager utility on the X61s it allows you to set the wireless radio to 'max power savings' (and therefore lowest heat) whereas my X60s (xp) does not allow s...

x60s vs. x61s can't se the real benifit of x61s
I've used my x60s for over a year now and I still really like it. So when my brother is about to get a new laptop the x60s is a natural place to start with. The student discout I got my x60s with now has the x61s, but whats the difference? Yes, theres the 64 bit CPU but the performance gain there is...

What do you want to accomplish? "Real" Low-Level formatting isn't posssible on any harddrives (for over 20 years or something) aimed end users. Sure there are low-level formatting tools offered by many manufacturers but the only thing they do is write zeros all over the disk. And that has nothing to...

PC-4200 memory
Hi
I've got ahold of some PC-4200 (533MHz) and thinking of mixing it with the PC2--5300/667MHz memory in my x60s.
I know that the faster memory will work as the new slower one but will BIOS allow this without changing the system-bus and reducing the CPU frequency?

Using USB optical drive will work and it's probably the easiest. That's how I fresh installed XP on a X60s. X60s supports network boot. I've yet to find a single guide for loading Windows XP through network boot. Check the last post on the first page and the rest. http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/sh...

The "802.11 "N" cards use 3 antenna leads; your machine has 2 WiFi antenna leads. Leave the center connector on the "N" card disconnected. What are the other two used by? I would for instance gladly exchange 802.11 A (never even seen it) for N if possible :) But I guess that would be too good to be...

Isn't that the always/often the case? That the LV and ULV versions are clocked lower. The reason for this is probably marketing - just to make up the quite steep price for them. Although the difference were quite big this time, that makes me believe that they have a big problem producing them. First...

Actually, it depends on the monitor. Thouse of you reporting very bad image quality with VGA most likely have a monitor with both DVI and VGA inputs. And that manufacturer most likely didn't care much at all about image-quality on the VGA port. Or, the VGA signal is the villain - however on a device...

Newegg sells USB Bluetooth adapters for as little as $10. Those are external. I for one will probably be willing to pay quite a bit for internal bluetooth. There are many reasons for it. An external one easily gets lost, and reduces the portability of the whole notebook if moved around often when u...

I'm an resolution-freak and going to the x60s my main concern was the resolution. I do think it's the weakest link (the tablet version do offer a higher resolution - which I truly envy). Most applications do work quite well with 1024x768, however you won't be having multiple windows at the same time...
