Re: Yoga Book and the frustrations of ordering internationally (mild rant)

Tested it in a store. As a premium Android tablet it seems reasonable. With the clamshell format, keyboard ergonomics are better than most tablets. Possibly the best thing available right now without moving keys. (Faint praise, yes.) Still kind of tempted to try and get proper U.S. keyboard. Anyone ...

Re: Yoga Book and the frustrations of ordering internationally (mild rant)

Cheers RBS. We saw the Ars review, it didn't really deter. I should say we're looking at the Android version, intended mostly as a tablet, with somewhat better typing and drawing facilities than most tablets. Focus is on portability and this definitely won't be the main machine. It also looks like w...

Yoga Book and the frustrations of ordering internationally (mild rant)

I'm looking at the Yoga Books. (Not for me... you can pry my X220 keyboard from my cold hands... but I've been requested to procure one... and I might play with the neo-TransNote functionality... ;)) I require a U.S. or UK keyboard, and shipping to Canada or Germany. (English-speaking Canada general...

Re: X220 screen problem - causes, fixes? (details inside)

Oh yes, I forgot to mention I've opened it up and reseated the motherboard side. I recall the screen side was trickier and I can't remember if I've actually unplugged it on that end - I might not have, for fear of breaking something delicate (there's tape or a plastic shield around the piece as I re...

X220 screen problem - causes, fixes? (details inside)

Hi all, I have an X220 4290-WFZ (IPS) with a wonky screen. Every now and then, particularly after startup and if the lid has been opened carelessly, I get a vertical band about 1/10th the width of the screen, roughly in the middle, where colours are off, usually inverted or very dark, and the image ...

I bought an X220 from mpcook, who has been very patient and kind while I dithered about shipping options. A pleasure to email with and buy from. Thanks Mike!

FS: X200; free to good home: very nice T22; updated May 1

Hi all, I'm looking to cut down my Thinkpad "collection" somewhat. I love Thinkpads but these have been mostly collecting dust while I'm away moving to exciting new cities with one or two laptops. My parents have kindly housed them for the last couple of years but I should probably move them out - i...

Re: X220 second-hand availability

Thanks all! I'm good, London is exciting. I really am looking passively and with no rush, and still have people who could take a package for me in Canada and U.S., so not too worried about geographical price differences. I agree about X230 being a bit rubbish, it might be a small thing but the PrtSc...

X220 second-hand availability

I'm in a fairly passive market for an IPS X220. A couple of months to maybe a year ago I was seeing relatively many listed in the marketplace forum. Now there's nothing. Do these come in cycles? Coming off lease maybe?

And to think I made fun of a friend's consumer-grade Toshiba for having the tilde between the right Alt and Ctrl in 2005.

That laptop fell apart in about two years, anyone want to make bets about this exciting new offering?

Bumping this from the dead! Due to combination of things, mainly my forgetfulness, I still have this. I took some pictures: http://imgur.com/a/FKT2h. Please excuse the blurriness at the IBM logo level, this is a SLR lens thing - the logo is fine. Of course, I'm moving again, and so this can be picke...

WTB: X200 IPS screen HV121WX4-120

I messed up the IPS screen I bought swapped into my X200. The backup TN is now fine after a cable replacement, but it looks awfully TN-y. Anyone got an HV121WX4-120 or compatible for sale? Shipping to Vancouver, BC, or Seattle, WA 98109 as convenient. I would prefer to avoid using Paypal if possible...

Re: Google pixel to use 15:10 (3:2) aspect ratio

Word on the street (e.g. at Liliputing ) is it is/will be possible to install at least Linux OSes. No trackpoint is a darn shame, but I'm thinking for for a screen like that I'm willing to carry a mouse. On second thought, I'll just wait for Lenovo to release another sub-1000 vertical pixel Thinkpad...

Best place to get batteries for older Thinkpad models

I'm looking for a couple of batteries for some older Thinkpads, specifically a T60p and an X200. Is there a currently acclaimed best source or sources? eBay? Any particular sellers? I went random-eBay-seller route for batteries for X31 and X21 a while back, but predictably the batteries weren't supe...

Is Lenovo really going to continue putting Print Screen key between right Alt and Ctrl? That's dreadful. I was hoping the *30 generation was a one-off mistake.

Re: Linus Torvalds: Make 2560x1600 the new standard resolution

Agreed. Current laptop resolutions are a sad joke. My six-year-old T60p has more pixels than 90% of the current Thinkpad lineup, including stuff Lenovo markets as "HD+".

Re: T60p upgradeability - 64 bit CPU, RAM?

As someone who upgraded my R60 from a T2300 to a T7400, 99% of the time I could never tell a difference. The T5500 in my R60e works great. I'm not complaining about the speed of my T2600 either, I've just ran into a couple of 64 bit things that I wanted or needed to run and couldn't. I'd also want ...

T60p upgradeability - 64 bit CPU, RAM?

Hi folks, I'm looking to get 64 bit on my T60p 2007-93U, currently equipped with a T2600 Yonah. I understand this is generally supported; does it depend on mobo or BIOS revision, or will it Just Work regardless? CPU-Z shows my BIOS version as 79ETE1WW (2.21), date 02/05/2008. I'm not looking for a l...

WTB T60 15" keyboard, X200 flush battery, LF X200 keyboard

Seeing if there's some on the forum before I have to endure ebay: Looking for a new or substantially like new keyboard for a 15" T60p. Mine is getting a little worse for wear. Prefer UK layout (with the extra key compared to US) but will get a US layout too. Looking for a flush-fitting battery for a...

LF/feeler: small IPS laptop (e.g. X60, X200, X220)

Hi all, I'm looking for a smallish (12-13"), somewhat recent IPS machine and thought I'd put out a feeler for what the fine forum folks might have available. I'd be particularly interested in one of the following: - X60 series (any model) with a 1400x1050 IPS screen swapped in - X200 with an IPS scr...

Thanks for the recommendations, pianowizard. I'll see if I can track down the Sony, and I'll take another look at the MBA. Do you know if the 11.6" MBA has a similar screen? (A friend has one so it might be easier to compare outside of the busy glare-rific Apple Store environment.) I'd wait till nex...

Ah, right, I remember dreaming about a X6*SXGA+ Frankenpad at one point. Might do the job hardware-wise, I might try looking for one... Thanks for the Sammy model numbers, will plug them in too.
