My t42p had a system board failure as well about 2 weeks ago. I took out the hard drive, extra memory, and battery, stuck it in the overnight box and received my thinkpad 3 days later with the problem fixed, I then stuck the hard drive back in and started right where I left off without having to ref...

You are going to have to give us more information. When you say you keep getting disconnected, do you mean that the icon at the bottom says disconnected or that you can no longer access the internet even though the icon still says connected?

Is that a half sized pci card? From what i've seen, it looks like a normal pci card and might not fit the slot in the dock II.

Do you mean the right side of the scroll pad? I thought the fingerprint readers were on the right and this is where your hard drive is. The left only has the slot for the pcmcia card and the expresscard. You will notice heat from the hard drive after continual use if you lack RAM or if you are just ...

It's the memory. XP will use 256 Megs of memory by itself and then will start using virtual memory which accounts for the use of the hard drive all the time and the slowness. Just get some more memory and it'll speed up considerably.

Good luck.

Try tweaking the pressure by loosening and tightening the screws on the underside. Not sure what would cause the change when it turns on, heat shouldn't affect it, my guess is that you using it for a while affects it.

Good luck.

I don't know much about the half size pci architecture and have been trying to figure out which version of the pci architecture it runs on. The bottom line is that it won't be faster than current pci cards (not pci express cards) and those don't compare with the speed of the AGP 4x that is in your t...

Hehe, you people are too paranoid when you first get your thinkpads. The white lines are due to the fact that the display is changing resolutions between the IBM boot logo and entering windows. This is completely normal and nothing to worry about. Now if you see lines after windows is loaded, this w...

I agree, photoshop is CPU and RAM intensive; therefore the T43 will inherently be better because of its faster CPU option and the faster bus speed. Either model will work beautifully with the higher end CPUs and 2GB of ram. That allows you to save money on non p models.

Good luck.

Nope, that is part of the system board. The banias system board is 400mhz and will no support the sonoma platform. Upgrade your ram instead if you are looking for performace boost. You can also get to 2.1 ghz with a dothan CPU which your system board will support.

Good luck.

I'm confused, you say outer lcd, do you mean the lcd cover (as in the top of the machine when it is closed) or the lcd screen? If you are talking about the lcd screen, the little marks you are talking about are probably created by the trackpoint. To remove them, just use a little bit of water and al...

What work do you do on the thinkpad to warrant these upgrades? To answer the first question, yes there is a speed difference, does it warrant the $300 - $400 price tag associated with this upgrade? Not in my opinion. Upgrading your RAM is probably where you will see the performance boost but 1 GB of...

Did the printer work with this configuration before your friends played with it? If so, try plugging in your printer directly to your USB drive on the thinkpad. Even though the printer says it requires USB 2.0, most printers are backwards compatible with USB 1.0. If the printer is not recognized dir...

Your license number is on the underside of your thinkpad. Recovery disks can be created using software on the thinkpad or you can recover from a hidden partition on your hard drive by hitting the access ibm button when starting up and following instructions.
