My t42p had a system board failure as well about 2 weeks ago. I took out the hard drive, extra memory, and battery, stuck it in the overnight box and received my thinkpad 3 days later with the problem fixed, I then stuck the hard drive back in and started right where I left off without having to ref...

Do you mean the right side of the scroll pad? I thought the fingerprint readers were on the right and this is where your hard drive is. The left only has the slot for the pcmcia card and the expresscard. You will notice heat from the hard drive after continual use if you lack RAM or if you are just ...

I don't know much about the half size pci architecture and have been trying to figure out which version of the pci architecture it runs on. The bottom line is that it won't be faster than current pci cards (not pci express cards) and those don't compare with the speed of the AGP 4x that is in your t...

Hehe, you people are too paranoid when you first get your thinkpads. The white lines are due to the fact that the display is changing resolutions between the IBM boot logo and entering windows. This is completely normal and nothing to worry about. Now if you see lines after windows is loaded, this w...

Hi goobie, That is the lcd itself as far as I know. Well not the lcd itself since lcd stands for liquid crystal display and just the lcd would be liquid. What you can touch is the cover that keeps the liquid inside but nothing else. This cover can be cleaned quite effectively though, you just have t...

I'm confused, you say outer lcd, do you mean the lcd cover (as in the top of the machine when it is closed) or the lcd screen? If you are talking about the lcd screen, the little marks you are talking about are probably created by the trackpoint. To remove them, just use a little bit of water and al...

What work do you do on the thinkpad to warrant these upgrades? To answer the first question, yes there is a speed difference, does it warrant the $300 - $400 price tag associated with this upgrade? Not in my opinion. Upgrading your RAM is probably where you will see the performance boost but 1 GB of...

Sounds like it is windows related, but before messing with windows which can take some time, try it in all 4 usb ports, and then if no luck, try to plug in the printer to another computer. This will at least tell you if the printer has a problem. If the printer works, attack bhtooefr's list. Good lu...

Did the printer work with this configuration before your friends played with it? If so, try plugging in your printer directly to your USB drive on the thinkpad. Even though the printer says it requires USB 2.0, most printers are backwards compatible with USB 1.0. If the printer is not recognized dir...

This is equivalent to the "detect my system" option that can be found here on the right although it seems like you need IE to be able to use this option.

I grab the thinkpad out of my bag by the battery and then hold it from underneath, this way, i don't have to touch the lid so much since it is prone to ugly fingerp...
