Re: T61 running Win10, returning to Win7, please help!

When installing Windows 7 Pro from scratch and then applying the updates, I use the Service Pack 1 single file download from the Microsoft site and then use WSUS Offline Update to add everything else. It neatly sidesteps most MS updating issues and filters out known bad updates. I've used this upda...

On old(er) laptops I use the Lenovo T420 Recovery set for W7-Pro/SP1, be that 32- or 64-bit, I have both. Then remove all the bloatware I don't need and update a few drivers if/when needed from https://download.lenovo.com/eol/index.html None of my installs has gotten any M$-updates in the last thre...

Re: T61 running Win10, returning to Win7, please help!

Now suddenly Windows has found 10 important updates, and the last of them is Service Pack 1. Now I'm maybe getting somewhere. Why it sees them now I don't know, but I did see something about installing Windows Update. Huh? Obviously Windows Update is part of Windows... It's a newer version? Didn't s...

T61 running Win10, returning to Win7, please help!

Today, my internet connection seemed problematic. Pages that should have loaded in 5 seconds were taking minutes or never updating. I restarted my router, no help. I rebooted the machine [ Lenovo product ID 6465CTO running Windows 10 64bit ] but when I went to enter my password I could not. The mach...

Re: ThinkPad T61 Intel Graphics Windows 10 (1903) general lag

I've been running Windows 10 64 bit on this T61 for a few years. When I find the time I'm going back to Windows 7 64 bit. My biggest gripe is that I have been able to find no remedy for seemingly random and very frequent tiling of all my windows, like a chess board, when swiping the trackpad, just m...

(with a flashlight) What? Backlight died or something? No, I was just joking. I have an every-day-carry flashlight that gets a lot of use! I just went into the BIOS and made the change to Enabled. So, I'm wondering if I should go back and reverse all the settings changes I made in Windows 10, expla...

Re: T61 when suspended won't charge USB devices

"T61 has a Config/USB/Always On [Disabled/Enabled] setting in BIOS.
T60 has only Config/USB/USB support [Disabled/Enabled]."

That has to be the answer. Thank you, I'm going into the BIOS (with a flashlight) to search for the setting... :)

T61 when suspended won't charge USB devices

My T60 running Windows 10 32bit when suspended will charge devices off its USB ports. My T61 running Windows 10 64 bit will not. I've tried reconfiguring the machine and it still does not charge USB devices when suspended. I have disabled USB Root Hubs from turning off to preserve power, that didn't...

Re: T60 with 2504 mini dock, 23" & 19" displays -- has desktop icon names blurry

I guess these are the drivers. All ATI chips from that era have poor to none support under W10. I do have a T60 with ATI graphics, however it's running XP and not used a lot. The machine I'm having this problem with is this: Lenovo T60 1953CTO ThinkPad T Series T60 Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5500 ...

Re: T60 with 2504 mini dock, 23" & 19" displays -- has desktop icon names blurry

Yes, W10 is the culprit! However, when I ran Windows 7 on the machine I was getting delays sometimes a few minutes before I had control of the machine again. Moving to Windows 10 stopped those delays... They were hell, the blurred icon names is an annoyance. I'm not retreating to Windows 7 on that ...

When I get around to it I'm going to return my T61 to Windows 7 64bit Ultimate from the Win10 "upgrade" I did. Figure it will stop a nasty trackpad issue it has. While I have an Intel 180GB SSD in this T60 (runs Windows 10 32bit without obvious major issues -- it had a supremely awful issue being fr...

T60 with 2504 mini dock, 23" & 19" displays -- has desktop icon names blurry

The 23" is the main display and is getting the DVI from the mini-dock. The 19" is getting the VGA. T60's own display is left off. Am running Windows 10 32 bit. All the icons are on the 23" display connected by DVI, the extended desktop to the 19" display run on VGA is empty. The icon names on the 23...

Welcome to the forum. :) Yes, not all of the Lenovo software that was designed for Windows Vista or 7 will play nice with Windows 10. There are alternatives, but they are not perfect. T61, Windows and apps suddenly in black and white

OMG... I just did another search and found this: Windows key + Control + C... it turns everything B&W. Even a reboot doesn't restore color. Dang, you'd think they wouldn't play that trick on you. I must have hit that by accident. I don't hit the Windows key a lot, but sometimes, when I "know what I'...

Re: T61 -- Suddendly, mysteriously, a one fingered swipe on the trackpad causes all windows to tile

With Middleton's BIOS you can use any Lenovo W7 Recovery diskset. A COA that came with a bought W7 is only valid for that exact same type of W7 (Home, Pro, Ultimate, etc.). You might get lucky with 32 or 64 bit of the same type, don't know. The COA on the machine (sticker on bottom) is for Vista Bu...

Re: T61 -- Suddendly, mysteriously, a one fingered swipe on the trackpad causes all windows to tile

If 64-bit runs on it, then 32-bit definitely also will. It just won't use all the memory if there is more than 4GB. That I knew. What I'm concerned about is the licensing. I have a valid legal Win7 64bit Ultimate disk with key. Can I install Win7 32bit on the machine using a Win7 32bit disk with a ...

Re: T61 -- Suddendly, mysteriously, a one fingered swipe on the trackpad causes all windows to tile

The crazy thing is it doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally, seemingly as a result of the same type of finger swipe across the trackpad that at other times doesn't cause the behavior. It's been suggested that I can turn off some or all of the fancy features of trackpad, with the exclusion o...

T61 -- Suddendly, mysteriously, a one fingered swipe on the trackpad causes all windows to tile

This has been going on now for about a week. A funny aspect of it is that it's not to-me obvious how to reproduce the behavior. I'm typing on the machine right now. Naturally, using the trackpad, when I want to move the cursor from one location to another I place one finger on the trackpad and slide...

Re: Need help(!) Middleton BIOS T61 Windows 10?

I flashed it on my Windows 10 64bit T61. Needed to in order to install an Intel Ultimate-N 6300 633ANHMW WiFi Wireless Card. Doing so appears to be the reason I haven't had a single BSOD since. It's been over 3 months now, I think. I was getting BSODs all the time before swapping out the original Wi...

Win10 64bit, T61 - Suddenly a mere 1-fingered swipe on trackpad causes window tiling!

I never had seen this but for the last week almost this T61 laptop has had this peculiarity. Just removed the old 4965 AGN wifi card from this T61 and installed the 6300 AGN Ultimate. Connected to my network on the 5GHz band. Will see if my BSOD's are resolved, but I won't be confident unless I go 3 months without one. Even a week or two would be reason to be optimistic. It's been over two...
