Re: Order in for a CTO P1 Gen 5, current ship-by date: Jul 30

Have my system all set up now, and glad to say this one is not defective. The 12800H and A4500 are pretty obscenely fast, especially for a laptop this small, and shockingly it doesn't cook to death either. Sitting at ~85C on both under a max combined synthetic load. All of this is working fine unde...

Training videos for T60 (T61 too)

The links I saved aren't working any more. I used to use these when I needed to service my T60s and my T61. One of my T60's has a buzzing sound (pronounced) and I suspect the fan has an issue, maybe dirty. Before I take a screwdriver to it I'd like to see the videos. Are they still available? Where?...

P1Gen3 won't go to sleep

I have "Close the lid' action set to put the Windows 10 machine to sleep, but it stays awake. Pressing the power button is supposed to do the same thing and it doesn't go to sleep. Even Start menu, Power, Sleep only blanks the screen, but a touch of any key or the trackpad instantly turns the screen...

Re: What Disk Imaging Program Do You Use in the Windows 10 Era?

I have upgraded the M.2 SSDs in both my Lenovo P1's (Gen 1, Gen 3) to Samsung 1TB SSD's recently. First one (Gen 1) went smoothly using Samsung Migration Tool, the other one I did yesterday and the tool would crash immediately. SMT works if the target SSD is Samsung. Searching revealed that Bitlocke...

Re: Setting battery charge THRESHOLD on P1

I believe the inability to set thresholds when the current charge level is above the maximum you're trying to set is nothing new. If you read my first post carefully you'll see that I did let the machine go below that, in fact below the minimum and I still could not set my thresholds without the mac...

Re: Setting battery charge THRESHOLD on P1

AFAIK, the machine is completely up to date on everything. I made the setting (only way I know of) with Lenovo Vantage. I'm using the machine right now. Vantage indicates that the Threshold feature is disabled. However, it's plugged into AC power (SlimQ 65w GAN charger, which the Thinkkpad always co...

Setting battery charge THRESHOLD on P1

I have a P1 Gen 1 and a new P1 Gen 3. Both machines run Win 10 Pro 64bit. I use them with adapter connected and in order to extend battery life I have thresholds set up on the P1 Gen 1: Max: 45% Min: 40% I had this setup on the P1 Gen 3, but about 2 days ago I take the machine out of suspend and see...

Re: Expanding storage and RAM in P1 Thinkpad

I am using my P1 Gen1 right this moment. It's got 2 M.2 SSDs in it, but only one has Windows 10 on it. Here's what I did: I inserted a new Samsung NVMe M.2(2280) 970 EVO SSD 1TB, downloaded and ran Samsung's migration tool (both the original and added SSDs are Samsung, and I heard that tool works fl...

Remove ram and SSD prior to repair.

Brad
Are you suggesting that I return this P1 Gen 1 via RMA without the SSD or any RAM in it? If that's doable and acceptable, I'll surely do it, but I wasn't aware of the possibility. Obviously, they should have nothing to do with the problems the machine has.

Expanding storage and RAM in P1 Thinkpad

This P1 Gen 1 Thinkpad has 256GB and 16GB DDR4 2933 Mhz, single stick. I found the exact same stick for sale on ebay, not installed yet. I bought a SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3. Re: X1 Extreme Gen 2 worse than its predecessor

Just a day ago I was close to buying a used X1 Carbon Thinkpad Gen 2 when I came to understand that the Thinkpad keyboard that I so love isn't in this machine! No FN button at bottom left, no FN buttons, but the kicker was absent L/C/R mouse buttons at the top of the trackpad.

I bought a 16GB stick to add to this Thinkpad P1 Gen 1 machine, an exact match for the one already in it: Micron 16ATF2G64HZ-2G6E1 Also bought a 1TB NVMe solid state drive to complement the 240GB drive already in the machine, figure to clone the 240 to the 1TB and boot off the bigger drive: Samsung ...

Re: Please help me pick a Thinkpad

Well, the number of pins may be 260, it may be 288, wouldn't seem to matter, because I just bought the exact same part off Ebay, new for a very reasonable price. Micron 16ATF2G64HZ-2G6E1 My P1 will have 32GB RAM and got an email from Newegg today that my backordered 1TB Samsung SSD has come in so th...

Re: Please help me pick a Thinkpad

The part number of the Micron DDR in the machine now is:

16ATF2G64HZ-2G6E1

I'm having a tough time finding a match. Well, I maybe have, but can't confirm. For one thing I haven't determined if this is 260 or 288 pin, which is crazy. I put in a request at Micron's site and should be contacted.

Re: Please help me pick a Thinkpad

The data I have for the system spec on my P1 vers. 1 machine indicates the memory thus:

Memory 1x 16GB DIMM DDR4-2666 non-ECC

So, I'm thinking that getting an additional module that's 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 NON-ECC SO-DIMM would be inappropriate. Am I wrong?

Re: Please help me pick a Thinkpad

Both RAM and SSD can be installed without breaching warranty. No need to stick with Micron. On the old SSD, uninstall that Doom game right away (to make some needed space). You can always reinstall it on the new SSD Keep it otherwise as-is and in reserve for your RMA. When you RMA the machine, take...

Re: P1 connected via HDMI to 4K display but display detects no signal

That same cable that wasn't working with this laptop to send video to external display failed to work with a different but same model 43" TCL display and a Blu-ray player, so there's something fishy with that cable. I have 3 others, same manufacturer, all new sealed in plastic. I will test each, obv...

I was getting "No signal detected" from the external TV/Monitor. Funny thing is for a second or two I got some kind of info when I was doing some things with the laptop. When I say a second or two, I'm not exaggerating. A second may have been the total time. A few words on screen in a corner. Well, ...

P1 connected via HDMI to 4K display but display detects no signal

The display is seen by Windows 10 Pro, I have the P1 configured to display on both screens (the laptop's and the TCL 43" 4K display), but the display although set to use HDMI3, does not detect the signal. Windows display settings is at "Duplicate these displays." In Advanced display settings, Displa...

Re: Please help me pick a Thinkpad

You can upgrade your P1 up to 64GB RAM and up to 4 TB NVMe SSD. No need to buy a new machine, unless you want a 'spare'. And instead of RMA it and if time is of the essence, you could buy a new keyboard. Is it possible to add an SSD or is that upgrade strictly by virtue of replacement? Can I add RA...

Depending on your warranty, have them come out to replace the motherboard AND the keyboard, or send it in (without SSD) for repair. I can remove the SSD?
