Re: Brag about the "good deals" that you've bought!

Scooped up on fleaBay, an A31, (2652-M3U), for $30.00 w/free shipping. Stated it had a fan error. Pulled the palmrest off, blew out the fan and it's been running solid and cool for over a week. Upgraded it to wireless with antennas from a defunct R40. Snaked them around under the palmrest, excellent...

Re: Who is staying wtih XP?

Haven't tried W7 yet. I installed adifferent HDD in my R61i and and loaded XP onto it just to see the difference between Vista and XP on the same machine. I felt the XP to Vista jump was easier than 2000 to XP. I don't really like how Vista handles certain internet items but could live with it. Took...

None of your current Windows updates or any programs you added will be installed. It will end up exactly as it left the factory. So be prepared to do some updates and installs

Re: thinkpad r40 motherboard

I'm kinda in the market for one also. I've seen several sites that list a TON of FRU number changes, (sometimes over 10 different ones). HMM only lists about what, 6 different ones now. Most are CPU socket, security, or the 1394 combo's. I've come to the conclusion that a 14" or 15" doesn't seem to ...

R40 (2723-3XU) mobo problems (ultrbay sometimes dead)?

Hadn't really noticed this before, maybe because after I got everything loaded they way I like it, I haven't installed anything new. I put a CD in the drive and it spins up and then nothing. I click on "my computer" and the CD and/or DVD doesn't show up. Check hardware and there's an exclamation mar...

Re: SSD reliability. Please respond if you are using one

Here's an interesting little tidbit, copied from Wikipedia....I'm sure this has been mentioned on this forum but I didn't want to search. Tests by an SSD maker show that Windows 2000 is markedly faster than Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X or Linux, when it is run from an SSD using NAND flash mem...

Re: Readyboost Question

Just picked up an R61i from underclocker and it came with Vista Home Premieum. This is my first experience with Vista by the way. After playing around a few days and getting used to it. I saw the mention of readyboost. I have a "cheapie" DANE 1g USB memory stick so I decided to plug it in and see wh...

Revived dead A30

With Rays help & guidance. I revived an A30 back from the dead. It was my daughters and she said video went, then it went dead. All I could get it to do was turn the "power" light on and the fan. No HDD activity, no PCMCIA power, and no video. Didn't see much on here about this symptom, so I started...

I didn't have the shut-down problem but I did notice that a few updates won't work/run if SP3 has been installed. I uninstalled SP3 and then the other updates would install fine. I'd try uninstalling SP3 and see what happens with your shutdown problem. FWIW, I didn't see any reason to have SP3 for m...

Maybe a BIOS upgrade is needed? I had the same situation on a T20 board that I put into a T22, it wouldn't run at full speed until I updated the BIOS. Just a thought.
