Re: X6X-series LED backlight conversion kit howtos
Finally getting around to installing the Daylight kits I ordered last summer! I notice that I will need some double-sided tape, and that ideally I should use heat-resistant double-sided tape, like Killer Red. If I'm going to order some tape online, what width should I get so that it fits (or is easi...

I've been using GWX Control Panel which also works well. http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/ I second that. It's simple, clear, and seems to just work. I don't fiddle anymore with disabling this or removing that or registry edits to get rid of the Win10 nag. Personally, I'm running Win10 just fi...

Late to the party here, but the X1 Tablet is what I'm looking at as a successor to my X61 Tablet SXGA+ daily driver. I'll also be curious to hear what you think.barushki wrote:I went and ordered an X1 tablet. We'll see how it goes.

Received my two daylight X61T kits safe and sound this week in Toronto Canada. It may be a couple weeks before I have a chance to install one. Thanks!

And yes, the 560 series machines do have a gameport connector on them, but you'll need an unobtanium dongle to use it. Ha ha! I may have one of those unobtanium dongles for my old 760 in storage somewhere...either that or I must have used a port on the port replicator? Has there ever been a Thinkpa...

Re: Setting up SED (Self-Encrypting Drive) on Dual-Boot system: Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15
It seems my problem was indeed caused by eDrive. I have an identical Crucial MX200 SSD with SED that I'm now installing with Win 10 and Ubuntu, and this time , I enabled the BIOS-level "Hard Disk1" password before starting the Windows 10 install . Obviously, that also means that this option appeared...

Re: Setting up SED (Self-Encrypting Drive) on Dual-Boot system: Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15
According to the W520 BIOS simulator, the Hard Disk 1 Password sits (in Security) immediately under the Power On Password. Yeah, I checked that simulator as well, and I see where it should be , but it's simply not there. That's why I was wondering about eDrive stuff in the links above: apparently w...

Re: Setting up SED (Self-Encrypting Drive) on Dual-Boot system: Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15
This week, I was trying to finish locking properly locking down my W520. But there is no option in the BIOS to set the HDD password. Under Security, I can set Master password and Power On Password, but the Hard Disk 1 Password option is simply not there :? According to some reports, this may be beca...

Re: Who redesigned that gawdawful Lenovo Forum?
I have a variety of issues with the Lenovo Forum, and I seldom go there, but I just checked it out to take a look at these latest design changes and I don't think I'm seeing the same things that you folks are. It looks pretty usable to me. If anything, I'd say it's an improvement over what was there...

....if only it was.... a laptop:) Thing is, convertibles are wobbly, how can you take this thing outside? Use it (I mean typing/writing) say, on a bus? Anyhow sitting on your laps? Yeah, I'm not quite sure how the hinge mechanism would work in wobbly conditions. Or even just sitting on your lap ins...

Also, just hit a nice milestone: With a little practice, a stereo microscope and a pneumatic dropper to get better consistency on the solder paste, I just made my first flawless prototype with the new LEDs. The config was the same as my previous machine; the only differences were that I built it with a TuuS NOS motherboard instead of a standard non-safe dated NVIDIA motherboard, and the wifi card. Anyway as I mentioned above, you can use a hardware decoder card in say a Thinkpad X61 to play 1080p very smoothly and with very low CPU utilisation, although only with Internet Explorer; Firefox or Chrome etc are not compatible with this card. X1 tablet is interesting, but combining the camera, projector, and other features into a single attachable module would be better. Not sure how that would be better? New X1 Tablet looks intriguing, I admit
OK, I admit, I am intrigued by the new X1 Tablet that Lenovo presented at CES. Is there a thread in here already about this that I missed? Here's Lenovo's product video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxtBIcyTL9Y I was interested in the Helix when it first came out, and I've also been following the...

I'm watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v2L2UGZJAM in 1080p using smtube and writing this message in midori on an x61s (1.6 ghz) and cpu usage is at 25-30%. The video is smooth. I don't know smtube, but it looks to me like you don't actually stream the video when you use smtube - you use smtub...

I do want to warn you that people will say the palmrest heat problem is solved with a replacement smaller wi-fi card, but I don't think that's true. Re: Windows 10 Thinkpad W520
Are people having issues running in UEFI+GPT or Legacy BIOS+MBR mode ? I run everything in legacy boot mode with mbr partitioning. Multibooting is easier that way. Mine is UEFI+GPT (i.e. UEFI only - no legacy), which I chose because I vaguely thought it would affect my (self-encrypting) disk encryp...

Setting up SED (Self-Encrypting Drive) on Dual-Boot system: Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15
So I've just acquired a W520, and managed to get a dual-boot system set up with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15 installed on a 250GB Crucial MX200 SED (Self-Encrypting Drive) SSD. But I haven't enabled the SED hard drive encryption yet. I started reading through various instructions, and I've gotten a bit ...

FOUND: W520 with i7 2820QM or 2760QM and a good FHD display - to Toronto
[FOUND: Received a W520 this week from forum member jedisurfer1 that met my needs exactly. See feedback .] I'm looking for a W520 in reasonable shape with a close-to-top end processor: an i7 2820QM or 2760QM or better. And with a proper, FHD display in good condition. Ideally, I'd also like a finger...
