Re: TP 600X recovery cd not working?

I don't recall if I ever ran the recovery process on one of my 600X's. But if you decide to give up on the recovery CDs and install Windows 98 from scratch, then here is an old set of instructions you can try following: http://thinkpads.kiff.ca/600x/install_w98se Many of the links on that page may n...

Re: Recovery Set Repository

This is a very helpful and generous service, theterminator93, thanks! If I am able to find some of my old recovery disks, I'll check to see if I have any that aren't already in your list. I know that I have some for the X60T/X61T somewhere, but they've not surfaced out of my mess of storage boxes fo...

Re: X1 Carbon Tablet 3rd Gen - Sleep/Suspend issues - Sometimes won't respond!

I thought I'd report back on the current status to close off this issue. I haven't experienced one of these non-responsive sleep states since the series of firmware, BIOS and driver updates I did a couple weeks ago. So, while I'm not sure which one fixed it, I think one of them did.

Re: Can you overclock a 600E?

Welcome to the Forum! There may be a method of overclocking a 600E that employs a hardware mod to replace the clock generator. Never tried this myself, and can't comment on whether it might work in a 600E. Here's a post in The official 700 Upgrade thread where el-sahef posted about it back in 2009: ...

Thanks. I got it working now, though the option names in my X1 Carbon Table 3rd gen are slightly different in the current BIOS: Config --> Thunderbolt 3 --> Support in Pre Boot Environment --> Thunderbolt Device --> "Pre-Boot ACL" There is no "USB Device" listed in the "Support in Pre Boot Environme...

Re: Thinkpad X1 Tablet i5 faster than i7?

Surprised to see this. Though to be honest, I've noticed that m X1 Carbon Tablet (3rd gen) i7 gets much hotter than it should when sitting idle, and I've wondered what is up with the power management / thermal cooling / throttling /whatever. And early on when I first got the machine, I also noticed ...

How Enable Keyboard via Thunderbolt in BIOS for use with HDD Password when lid closed?

Does anyone know how to enable an external keyboard attached via Thunderbolt in order to type in an HDD or Power-On password? I often have my X1 Carbon Tablet (3rd ed) plugged into a Thunderbolt 3 Dock with its keyboard attached and lid closed. I also have a BIOS-enabled HDD password that requires m...

Re: X1 Carbon Tablet 3rd Gen - Sleep/Suspend issues - Sometimes won't respond!

It turns out that I did actually have some key updates waiting - a BIOS update from December 2018 (v.1.27) and a "Thunderbolt Firmware Update" from November 2018. The firmware update that remembered doing recently was for the "Thinkpad TBT3 Dock" and that one just got released last week. Not sure wh...

Re: X1 Carbon Tablet 3rd Gen - Sleep/Suspend issues - Sometimes won't respond!

Mmmm....I did see something about a BIOS issue with these X1's that could cause a hardware freeze and even brick the machines entirely, but I thought I remembered updating my BIOS recently after being prompted by Lenovo's Update/Advantage software, so I assumed they'd fixed it. Wishful thinking, per...

X1 Carbon Tablet 3rd Gen - Sleep/Suspend issues - Sometimes won't respond!

I've got a 3rd gen X1 Carbon Tablet that sometimes seems to fall into a non-responsive sleep state. I notice the problem when I'm docked via Thunderbolt in a Thi...

Hey joelyy6boi, just so there is no confusion, the thinkpads.com Marketplace is not an auction area where people bid on items - that's what eBay is for. Re: need advice with 380XD Win95 installation

In really old Thinkpads, you couldn't always boot from USB because the USB port actually required some drivers to load first. And sometimes you couldn't even reliably boot from CD-ROM! I can't say about the 380XD. But you could always boot from a floppy drive - either one installed directly in the T...

Re: 701C obscure disk issue? Any suggestions?

My guess would be something related to "IRQ channels". IRQ = Interrupt Request Channels. In DOS and Windows 95/98, you had to manually configure which devices would use which channels. With Thinkpads, you could do some of this using the Thinkpad Configuration software. For some devices, it was even ...

Not sure if I am remembering correctly, but I think used to use a generic IBM cd sys driver when I was installing Windows 95/98 on 1990's era thinkpads. Looking at an old set of boot disk files, I see one named "IBMTPCD.SYS". My AUTOEXEC.BAT file has a single line: MSCDEX /D:TPCD001 (Which means you...
