Absolutely, the thing is that I can get a used one pretty cheap and don't want to spend lots of money on it.
I've got an OCZ Vertex 2 that would not boot everytime, but sometimes and I think that was because of the Sandforce chipset.

Re: T430 and OCZ Agility 3 SATA 3 (240 GB)
I think we're done here :) Reading your input I would not recommend anyone installing a 9mm drive into the T430. The trigger for me was reading one guy who did and got an unstable machine when picking it up in the corner where the harddrive was connected. Personally I'm thinking of installing it wit...

Re: T430 and OCZ Agility 3 SATA 3 (240 GB)
I know that 9mm is more than 7mm and it should not work in theory, but having fiddled with computer for a lot of years, I also know that it doesn't mean that it might not fit The reason I posted here was to get a confirmation that it either will or will not work in practicality . Like this dude: htt...

T430 and OCZ Agility 3 SATA 3 (240 GB)
Hi Thinkpad'ers! Can anyone confirm that the T430 and the OCZ Agility 3 works together? My first concern is that the SSD is reported to be 9mm heigh and the T430 data SEEMS to be 7mm, but I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. Re: Thinkpad Z61M as mediaserver
My media center is used for music (personal, Rhapsody, etc.), downloaded movies, DVD's, Skype (using the camera), and showing/viewing photographs and movies made with a camera. I do not use a TV tuner via the laptop at this point. For video playback, I use 1280 x 768 since my Sharp Aquos only suppo...

Re: Thinkpad Z61M as mediaserver
That is what I use. Bonuses; 1) SD slot for copying/showing photos, 2) built-in camera on some models (can be added to others, I think), 3) big, but attractive design. Hello :) What do you use a camera for in a media center? What software do you use, and which tv tuner do you use? What resolution d...

You are right: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... -64176#mem
Then it should only perform as a mediacenter, and not also a server (i was thinking virtualization)

Re: Thinkpad Z61M as mediaserver
Due to chipset limitations, I believe the max memory for the Z61m is 3GB. Don't waste your money. Do you think a laptop drive has enough space? No it can take more memory, I've checked, I even think it can take up to 8 gigs. I think maybe you're thinking of the limitation of 32bit windows - which c...

Thinkpad Z61M as mediaserver
Hi everyone, Considerations: I'm thinking of using my "old" z61m laptop as a media center/server. Just bought a new TV: http://www.cdfreaks.com/hardware/product/94867-Philips-37PFL5604H-37___-Full-HD-1080p-digital-TV-LCD-TV.html The laptop doesnt consume much power, and is also quite capable. Plugging an external hd with E-sata into the internal SATA
Hi everyone. I've just bought: http://www.everythingusb.com/seagate-freeagent-xtreme-1.5tb-external-hard-drive-15790.html and after seeing the tests, I can't stop wondering, if I could use just plug it directly into my sata connector, where my main harddrive is now? Its been 12 days now, and I haven't had any bluescreen since. However I did have 3 crashes where the computer freezes in windows, and the system is unresponsive. I don't know if this is due to driver problems or harddrive - but it runs very stable (and fast!) now. It happens when I reconnect the pow...

Are you sure?
Are you perfectly sure about that? Have you tried it, or know anyone who have done it? If there is no problem with putting "ordinary" non-ibm drives into thinkpads, then why is there a section in this forum about flashing retail harddrives? -- this guy has replaced.. maybe it works.. (the last post,...

What hard drives are compatible with Ibm Thinkpads? (z61m)
As far as I know, thinkpads will not accept any other drives than original Ibm harddisks. However I know people is able to flash HD firmware and make them work 100%. This is why I would like this thread to become a list of retail (non-ibm) drives that can be confirmed to work with thinkpads when fla...

Hi, on my thinkpad Z61m my speaker area is all clogged up with little pieces of dirt - does anyone know how to remove this in a really painless way?
Vacum cleaning doesn't work, so I guess I'm looking for an easy way to remove the speaker covers...
