well dvd arrived DOA, and posting it back to the US, and only being refunded on the drive and not carriage, means i am down on the deal. ohh the joys of fleecebay..... however my 160gig is sitting here ready to go, but now i don't appear to have a service partition. although the 40gig drive is only ...

interesting chart. very suprised by the difference in performance betwen two identical drives comparing sata v ide i always thought the slow part of drives was the data reading and the heads flying around, not the transfer to the pc. looks like the hardware inside has finally caught up with the comm...

dvd writer not working - recognised - ejecting

the green light next to the drive bay is alight though.
i suspect it's duff, but has anyone come across this before?

surely it's not an antivibration system, but a "ohh f*** i just dropped my laptop" protection. the machine detects it is moving, and could have been dropped, so it parks the heads. shaking it from side to side will trigger this, but is not going to damage the disk. it is not parking the heads becaus...

No Cd/DVD drive when USB wheel connected
I got a USB wheel/peddle toy for my birthday (I'm 39 going on 9) Installed game, installed wheel, ran game, everything was perfect. my driving was a little erratic, but the electronics was fine. Next day, started up the machine, clicked the game icon, and it asked me to insert the cd. wasn't ...

I realise this is an old thread, but obviously as a topic it still comes up.... I have manually done what the HPA does on my previous machines. perfect fresh install with all drivers (ie run the IBM setup) then take an image. obviously you can install any essential programs at this stage, set up int...

Hello from a new T41 owner
Just saying hello really. It's fun being a newbie, knowing the tens of thousands of posts on other forums, mean absolutely nothing - apart fromt he fact you know how to behave on forums. Just got a T41 after my old compaq E500 killed it's hinge  I use it for "social computing", as apparently if...
