Re: X200 CCFL to X201 LED

I'm seeing a very faded ThinkPad logo with X200 screen but obviously not backlit. I have no soldering experience, but maybe piggybacking a fuse is possible? Of course, I don't see any capacitors?

Re: X200 CCFL to X201 LED

It would appear FRU is king, tried two screens but something to be ordered after disassembly, or compare manuals on phone & tablet. Unless I've blown a fuse?

X200 CCFL to X201 LED

Any gotchas? Are the ribbon cables the same pin out? I have a working ThinkLight & LED board but panel shows no sign of life even though eBay seller sold as tested reclaimation.

X200 Kali Beater

Stuff the retro! Picked up a minter X200 that apparently has led a very sheltered life. 375 extended battery cycles, even the ThinkLight works. High res screen crap by todays standards but hey.

I wonder if anyone doing the rainbow Pad stickers for the sheer heritage aspect?

Re: E325 UEFI or Legacy No OS Found!

The solution with eOS is to use Boot Repair. With openSUSE, leave secure boot box checked under bootloader options, then proceed to install. The boot loader will fail to install. Only then, uncheck secure boot & try again, voila!

E325 UEFI or Legacy No OS Found!

I have tried an install of openSUSE 13.2 & elementary OS Freya (GPT partition scheme) both fail to boot with no OS found. I could turn on legacy boot as a last resort with MBR partition table. Anyone know of some timely advice?

Slow Samsung 830 SSD!

I did a fresh install of Xubuntu 12.04.1 on a E325, ext4 with discard option & swappiness set to 0, mounting temp directory in RAM, (8GB.) I found performance was not stellar, in fact, marginally better than traditional spinning storage media. This drive has had good reviews, yet I have seen Windows...

SOLVED!!!

Was using older version of Banshee installed via Ubuntu Software Centre. Adding Banshee Team PPA then updating; listened 9 minute MP3 no skipping!

Re: MP3 Playback Stutters ThinkPad Edge 325

As far as I can ascertain Nuvola, the cloud based Google Play front end does not skip. Banshee is my absolute favourite, I love the file queue feature alone, but will try Clementine. I am running 64-bit Xubuntu. I've tried installing restricted extras, did not help.

MP3 Playback Stutters ThinkPad Edge 325

Running Ubuntu 12.04, Banshee will stutter say roughly once every two minutes of MP3 playback. This did not use to happen till recently. Anyone experience similar?

Re: Spilled water in E520

I sweat my electrics in a fridge, (dissembled with back cover off.) It extracts moisture like a new loaf of bread. Of course one needs to remove the battery first & let return to room temp to avoid condensation before turning on.

Re: Working Linux distro for Thinkpad Edge E320?

I have a perfectly good LaCie iamaKey that will just not boot with my E325, I can use it as a data drive, but for some reason cannot boot from it. I have quite a collection of USB sticks lying around so trying another was not a problem. I found Fn + F12 the best way to boot as even after tinkering i...

Re: [SSD] ThinkPad Edge E325

Ordered laptop with just 2GB of RAM as gonna just install Xubuntu & ran fine on 512MB. But since x64, it will take up to 8GB. I'm just a internet browser/light user who has never made use of virtual machines before, I'm guessing more RAM will not yield a noticeable performance increase? The only use...

Now official confirmation that it does have a ThinkLight?!? It would seem they back down after I show them detailed specification link. Haha! Time will tell I guess. It's been dispatched now. Also awaiting SSD & will use spinner for back up duties.

Re: ThinkPad Edge E325

Official confirmation from Digital River (who fulfil order) that only E420s ship with ThinkLight in the Edge range. One assumes higher models would also, but that is their exact words.

Bummer! Sorely disappointed, but hey?

Thanks for your kind words.

The AMD CPU may be a little underpowered, but no problem with Xubuntu. Probs contributes to claimed 8hr battery life, I mean that is insane!

ThinkPad Edge E325

I have my heart set on a UK Lenovo E325 Edge to replace my ageing IBM T21, all fo' £290! Super nice! I am wondering what is the correct nomenclature of E325 HDD UltraBay caddy? That mechanical switch is triggered physically by the lid closing & goes for suspend (not just screen blank.) I will try cycling external monitor hot key next time, but the old LCD unit did have an image on screen but it was not backlit.
