The update can only be applied to drives supplied by IBM.....there's a signature in the IBM levels of firmware that is checked before the update is allowed....

Don't know if this will help any (I never experienced a problem)....but IBM has released a new version of the DLA utility. Did you have a hard drive passward set on the drive you are trying to use? It must be removed it before it will work in the USB enclosure.

If you previously had it installed in the ThinkPad and set a disk password, you'll need to re-install it and remove the password before it will work in the USB enclosure.

If you are using a drive previously installed in a thinkpad, make sure you remove the hard drive password if one was set. If not, when you try it with the USB adapter it will be recognized, but you can't do anything with it.
