Gator, I feel the same way--that's why I was curious if anyone had already tried it. Who knows, I may get one anyway. If I do I'll post my impressions of it here.

I, too, thought that it would annoy me to no end, but I purchased a T61 anyway--and I never notice it at all when actually using the machine.

(Historical aside: it's not the first time that a ThinkPad has had an off-center LCD.)

I checked the list of installed updates in Windows Update, as pae77 suggested, but the update isn't shown there.

Like I said, I'm not really worried about this but I thought I'd see if anyone else had had the same experience with this update.

In case anyone is interested in how this turned out: Got the replacement set of Product Recovery CDs. Five discs, labeled "Product Recovery CD for ThinkPad T41, T41p, R50, R50p, Type 1829, 1830, 1831, 1832, 1833, 1836"; P/N 24R8116, dated November 2004. I successfully booted from Disc 1 and restored...

Spoke with support again, and it does indeed appear that the wrong discs were sent to me. A new set is on the way.

These discs have P/N 24R7709, with XP Pro SP2, dated January 2005.
