I stuck the original hard drive with xp pro and no problem, only with windows7 and only after doing some upgrades and adding seamonkey and firefox. Going to do a restore from the day after the win7 install 2 months ago and see how that goes.

Answering my own question, yes, they will boot off of a DVD -R and won't boot off of a DVD +R. I just booted Suse10.2 and it's installing now after some hard disc reconfiguration.

I burned an ISO of fc7 and tried installing on my t30, it won't boot off the DVD, the DVD's are +r and boot two desktops fine, just won't do the T30, is there a limitation in the T30 and if so how to resolve it. That brings up an interesting question, the T40 I just bought last week has an 802.11b card internal that works fine. What do you have to do if you were to stick in a say a linksys b/g card ? do you have to disable the onboard wireless ?

Need to pick up a laptop today, have a T30 that I'm perfectly happy with. This ones for my son, college, T40 refurb is $459. Daughters T42 is new. Quality wise is the 40 a decent model ?

Take a good flashlight and check the pins too, one could have gotten bent by somone trying to plug in either a USB or RJ11 telephone plug.
Just some thoughts. Another alternative might be to do a reinstall from scratch from the recovery partition.
