Wait, it's about 2 different laptops. T42p won't charge and R50e (that charging well) stuck at 598 MHz :)
That was not obvious from your original post...

Sounds like a damaged (blown fuse?) charging circuit to me, which could very well impact the machine's ability to run at full speed.

Re: Can a damaged CPU cause the 1-3-3-1 beep error?

I should throw out the first motherboard if it's a CPU killer. In my experience, a bad CPU usually prevents the system from starting altogether. I did have one occasion where the machine would start booting and then go into BSOD. However, I've never ran into the set of circumstances that you're des...

Re: Updating the T61p's Final Lenovo Issued Video Driver Question

BTW, did you find that uninstalling the old Lenovo Driver first worked better than simply executing the new Nvidia downloaded package? I maintain a different approach so this situation is really not applicable, but the nVidia driver will give you the option of performing a "clean" install and that'...

Re: Updating the T61p's Final Lenovo Issued Video Driver Question

I've never bothered with "official" Lenovo drivers for these systems, go to nVidia's site, choose what you need and download it. Haven't been there recently since what I've been using for a while (332.76) is working fine and I felt no need to update it.

Obviously, YMMV.

Sooner the better, and remove the dead battery altogether now since running with one for an extended period of time may blow your charging circuit.

Not everyone has $50 US to dump on a keyboard, and its something that wears out with heavy use. hence the question. What sort of work could it do which a T41 couldn't? It was simply more expandable, given its two bays as opposed to one on a T4x. Back in those days the hard drives were small, and the ability to shove in an extra HDD while keeping the DVD was a great option. Quite handy for copying stuff from one ...

All R-series units prior to R50 were made by Acer. Period, end of story. The DC plug on the "wrong" side of the chassis is a dead giveaway.

Re: R40-CTO how to determine specs

PSREF will do you little good with a CTO system. R40 came in two basic flavours: Pentium 4M and Pentium M. All you have to do is boot it into BIOS and see what CPU it sports. Graphic cards were ATi Radeon 7500s of varying VRAM size, but they all share the same driver. Wireless cards were Intel 2100B...

The question is if I can use it in my ThinkPad T420 to get some performance boost? Currently, the laptop has a Sandybridge CPU inside. Thank you. No sir....
