Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

Being older design language I would consider T61p to be fairly retro. Which is above and beyond ironic given the backlash that Lenovo had gotten at the time for moving away from the 4:3 ratio... To me personally, any combination of terms "ThinkPad" and "retro" implies a 4:3 system. This post brough...

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!

To save bandwidth for dial up users and cell phones? I'm sorry I'm not trying to be smart! This is just crazy, especially in the year 2018. In all seriousness: Do you not have wifi? I pay only $40 / month and I have unlimited 4G LTE data. You should seriously consider upgrading to a far superior da...

Re: T43p & FireGL V3200: Good idea to repsste the paste between the heat spreader and the die?

My T43p has a gpu that idles at around 50-55C no matter how I repaste on the gpu heat spreader. in comparison with the same heatsink, LCD and same CPU, my T43 with its X300 idles in the 30s to 40s. So is it a good idea to repaste the thermal paste between the heat spreader and the actual die? If so...

@visitor: I'm not familiar with either of the drives that you're considering, but would advise going with at least 240GB nowadays, smaller drives are always slower...and the price difference is usually not huge... And yes, I've ran SATA III drives in SATA I systems on quite a few occasions. Do you h...

It could use a RAM upgrade from what I've seen in the BIOS screen, though... :D

Now each ssd have 2 partitions, 14gb for lenovo recovery and other for windows. Only windows installed, nothing else. If not put laptop to reboot - ssd works well. Ugh. You should nuke the recovery portion to begin with, IMO and IME. Most SSDs also need unallocated - as in "not partitioned" - space...

Hello all,

I have a T42 that has come back to me. It is in good condition, 1.5 GB RAM, 1024X768 Radeon 7500. 160GB hard drive. Battery has about 1 hour run time.

Any interest or should it be recycled ?

Bruce

If I were to use an ExpressCard/54 or EC/34 for WiFi instead of the internal PCI card slot, A bad idea to begin with, since internal antennae will provide better connectivity than anything you could possibly put in the PCMCIA slot, WLAN-wise. could I use something like the Broadcom HD decoder inter...

Does the T30 and A31 series have the same problem?
No.

The problem described in the OP is one of the variations of BOD (Blink Of Death) which has been known to affect *all* A2x systems along with T20/21/22 but not T23 or any of the later models.

I've sold ThinkPads to customers worldwide - pretty much anywhere around the globe apart from Africa AFAICR - and 90% of the time it was a smooth sailing, more or less.
