Re: What exactly was the R series trying fit?

One 15" have broken audio chip (it is soldered on motherboard but absent in device manager or lspci) - never seen this on other Thinkpads. May be this is due body flexing, But T40 even with MG inset have body flexing and problems with video chip. I've seen this on a number of A31 units and a couple...

WTB: X60 tablet with SXGA+ LCD

The title pretty much says it all, but let me throw in a couple of additional details... 1) I am NOT interested in X61T with its original SXGA+ LCD, at any cost. 2) I might be interested in an X61T that had the SXGA+ panel transplanted from an X60T. 3) The screen itself should be in very good to exc...

92P1133 is one of the FRUs for a 9-cell Panasonic.

I'd make sure to confirm with the seller that is the *exact* FRU of the battery that you're getting.

I don't see an SSD mentioned. This. Going from a spinning drive to an SSD will likely make the biggest difference in performance on an older system. If one needs more of a boost, they should start looking into a system significantly younger than a *00 ThinkPad. This post brought to you courtesy of ...

Re: Those who own the 15" T4xp laptops, how useful are they in 2017?

I have a spare Intel SSD with W2K loaded, T43p is a thing of beauty under that OS. Of course, there are limitations. OS/2 has always intrigued me, but the last time I attempted to load it - from FDDs - onto my A31p it turned into a royal pain, so I gave up. I might re-visit that environment again ay...

Full model number along with the production date - both residing on the same sticker at the bottom side of the laptop - would likely help your cause.

Good luck with the sale.

In no particular order...

Fencing, amateur (aka ham) radio, horseback riding, classic car restoration ( I wouldn't mind driving some of my "old flames" but can't work on them anymore) and even - for the most part - ThinkPads.

This was just off the top of my head...

So the W700s came with TN panels, not IPS?
Correct.
I thought it had a well regarded screen.
For a TN panel of its era, yes. Nothing to write home about IMO, then or now.

Are there CPU upgrades that are possible?
How high up are you interested in going? You'll be stuck with a decade-old architecture and 1066MHz speeds in any event.
Also, if the screen is 1920 by 1200, is it the Flexview IPS display?
No. And there are no IPS replacement options either.

Well, to be exact, the "flexing" issue on A3x/T4x is also mostly due to repeated thermal expansion/contraction. The board flexing just makes it worse. :P
Indeed it does, especially on the thin 14" T4x units.

It's not a motherboard flexing issue in that case. More likely it's repeated thermal expansion/contraction causing the solder to crack. Using a heat gun will melt the solder and heal the crack.
Bingo.

Re: Flexing-issue on T60p 15 inch: possible?

Not that I'm aware of would be the short answer. "Flexing" has pretty much been laid to rest with the demise of T4x/R5x series.

Having said that, I've encountered VRAM corruption on more than one T60/p system, and some of the symptoms can overlap possibly causing the confusion.

My experiences only.

So I have a few questions ... if I leave the dead battery in the T41 for now to fill in the 'space' to help keep dust and debris out of that part of the computer, can this be harmful in the long run. The amber light will always be on and I guess the T41 circuitry will always be trying to charge a d...

If I do get it working, would it be wise to add a heatsink to the graphics chip? No. And staying away from the aftermarket batteries would be my suggestion. There's nothing retro about this laptop. Its a strictly better T470 with a dedicated GPU and a much better keyboard, with a small upcharge for it. Doesn't deserve so much hate when you look at it from this standpoint. If people didnt hate the T470 there's no reason to hate the TP25 from a specs per...

What is the model for that? I remembered seeing a bunch of AUO panels but never seen a LG one before. You sure it is compatible with my T530 with proper EDID chip and stuff?
