Optical Drive Ticking Clicking Noise
Following on from this thread I found a new, sealed 40Y8621 CDRW/DVD-ROM optical drive. It seems to be working okay, but when reading discs (I'm using it to rip audio CDs at the moment) it's making a regular ticking/clicking noise and the drive light is flashing in time to the sound. Does this indic...

Re: New Ultrabay Slim drive Optical drive needed
The most available multiburner seems to be 43N3229 ThinkPad DVD Burner Ultrabay Slim 9.5mm Drive II - if anyone has any idea if that is T60 Compatble that would be really helpful

New Ultrabay Slim drive Optical drive needed
I'm a bit lost in a blizzard of parts numbers, but I am a bit worried that I may have damaged my ultrabay slim drive and so am looking for a replacement for my T60 Current FRU is 39T2687 and I am happy with another CD-RW/DVD-ROM (as long as it is equivalent or better) but will can go multiburner, al...

Post Partioning SWShare issue
I've partitioned my hard drive with a data partion (E). However I have noticed that when I boot into Rescue and Recovery the next time I boot normally a SWSHARE folder with "rr" and "sfr" logs is created in the E drive, rather than updating the log in the C drive. Is this something I need to worry a...

Re: Advanced Mini Dock - recommended speakers?
Thanks for the information - this is really interesting as I'd never heard of headphone amps before!
I've had a look at the hlly - would the input from the PC be USB and then output either SPDIF or standard audio?
Many thanks for your patience with my question!

Partitioning tips/software
I'm running a T60 with Windows XP pro and I was thinking of partitioning the hard drive. I was thinking of doing an OS/data split, maybe looking at a dual boot set up down the line. I'd be interested in any tips for how to avoid any problems with the recovery partition (which I assume is a primary p...

Advanced Mini Dock - recommended speakers?
Have just got an advanced mini dock for my T60 and was wondering if anyone could recommend any particular speakers to use with it. Initially I was looking for some that might use the S/PDIF socket, but I don't need surround sound, just something for playing music through. If anyone has any recommend...

T60 HDD Bay Adaptor
This may seem a stupid question - but with regards part no 40Y8725 - the Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adaptor.
The manual says that it only supports Thinkpad drives - but will it actually accept any 2.5" HDD? or are there any I should avoid due to physical size etc?
Any help much appreciated.

Re: Upgrading T60 - a few queries
Many thanks for the tips, very useful, just a couple of clarifications: running 4gb as opposed to 3gb wouldn't cause any problems in XP (I realise I might not see the full benefit in XP pro, but it might be useful if I change operating system later). I'm guessing I'd be able to install the 640gb Sco...

Upgrading T60 - a few queries
So it's time to upgrade my 20077JU T60 and I have a few questions just to get some background, while they are probably a bit obvious any help would be much appreciated: 1. It currently has 1gig of memory - the information I have says it can take up to 4gig and the memory type is "PC2-5300 667MHz DDR...

Changing Keyboard Language - Anything I need to know?
I'm changing my T60 US keyboard for a UK one. Any useful tips would be much appreciated. (I've seen the video guide, but if there's anything anyone had wished they'd realised before they started to change a keyboard that would be useful). Also, obviously I change the language setting on the OS, but ...

Ultrabay Slim Multiburner confusion
I'm in the UK and need to buy an Ultrabay Slim multiburner for my T60. The TA book says that the model number originally supplied with the Laptop was the Super Multi-Burner (40Y8623) [flat bezel]. However I seem to be having problems locating this part number, presumably as it's been replaced. Does ...

I need some components for my Thinkpad, most pressingly a UK keyboard. So far the only place I've found stocking one is laptopbits.co.uk, anyone used them, or any other recommendations for resellers in the UK?

Recommended UK Accessory/parts Suppliers, and sleeves/cases
So, with much appreciated help from this forum, having got hold of my Thinkpad T60 I now need to get some bits for it and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for UK based parts /accessory suppliers. Right now I really need to fit a UK keyboard, and a DVD multiburner (and probably some ul...

Two Quick T60 Questions - optical drive and case
My previous question about buying a T60 from the states was comprehensively answered but I have two quick follow up questions: If I buy a T60 with a CDR-DVD ROM drive rather than a DVD multiburner (a compromise I may have to make to get it in time) then later purchase the DVD multiburner will I lose...

Buying a T60 from the US fro use in the UK
I'm in the UK and have the option to buy a T60 from the US and have a friend bring it back for me. I needed some advice/had a few questions though: I need recommendations for a US reseller. Ideally one who won't mid taking payment from the UK. In terms of specs I'm looking for a 15" 1400x1050 flexvi...
