Vista is the ejaculate from the testes of the father of lies, abbadon, the king of this world, the enemy Lucifer. Some benefits of W2k over XP include: *Smaller image size -> loads faster over net *Smaller userbase -> Less likely to be chosen as a target os for malware etc. *Faster startup -> Only b...

W2k going hot
Installing w2k at the moment. Will let you know how it goes. W2k3 developed many clitches and hickups during the 20 or so days of use. First went VLC player that started to flicker, then the computer started to sporadicly crash explorer.exe on startup and the program had to be restarted. Then it sta...

22.02.08 Obtaining w2k3 R2 tomorrow, and doing the server -> workstation dance. I'll let you know what happens. If it fails i'll go the XP route, i'm just inherently suspicious of XP and as w2k has a IP stack ripped from BSD i ultimately feel it fares better under any net weather than anything micro...

Might be so, but i count myself in the number of 'some people'! I have years of on hands experience with T600's T21's T23's T42's and all of them were flawless machines with rock solid builds. This T61 is the first one that i can flex with my little finger. Sure there were some discoloration tempora...

My couple weeks old T61 has the hinge wobble. maybe 5 degrees or so. I feel SO robbed getting this T61, I do not recommend it, get a T42 instead, T61 isn't worth tying the shoelaces of a T42. I totally hate this machine, considering tossing it for i would not wish this machine on my worst enemy. --Z...

T61 is easiest the worst thinkpad i've ever had.
Reasons: 1) It takes a nap every now and then (and just did it again) just freezing for a couple of seconds with no apparent reason or explanation 2) It bluescreens if i wank the LAN rj-45 3) It bluescreens sometimes when i insert an USB stick 4) When the screen goes off, it takes forever to come ba...

Update: Ah, finally got me aonther T23, and swapped memory and HD -> Works like a charm. So i'm yet again owner of a working t23, as a added bonus the new LCD doese not have any pressure spots, the keyboard bezel is not cracked and all the memory slots work flawlessly, so this 'burning my t23' might...

R52 Intel GMA 900 -> Radeon X300 ?
Hi! This might be discussed earlier, but search revealed nothing, so here is my question: I'm contemplating buying a R52 for 500 euros. It comes with the integrated Intel GMA 900 GPU which is subpar. Is it possible to upgrade this to Mobility Radeon X300 (that can be found on some R52 models) --Zaph

Ok, so far i have removed the motherboard and pretty much everything else (having trouble removing the casing for the CD-DVD, because the slide that releases the CD-ROM release doesen't seem to come loose willingly) The maintanance guide is a great help! Thanks for the info RealBlackStuff, The polarity was indeed correct and it's really weird that it burned the circuitry. My current suspicion is that the power needs overwhelmed the 3com power source and it short circuited. I'll have a cup of coffee and start opening it up, we'll see what we can see....

Magical blue smoke disapeared t23 won't boot.
I accidentally plugged a 3com 3c16742a power source into my T23, the plug fitted like a glove. The result was instant powerdown and a wiff of the blue magical smoke escaping from the cracks near the power inlet. The polarity on the 3com power source was right, and it measured 15.67 Volts on a multim...

I'we tried different memory modules and the only common thing is that it's only the front slot that's giving the intermittent problem. I'll have to take a magnifying glass to it and see if there is a bad solder somewhere. I'll try and stack paper in between the foam rubber and the memory slot untill...

Memory slot problem on a T23
Hi! I have this problem on my T23. When i do a boot of the system, about 80% of the time the 'front most' slot (the one that is nearest to me when i'm typing now) fails to notice the So-DIMM installed there. If i apply pressure to the memory slot cover about 3cm from the front and 10cm from the side...

Have you tried VideoLAN player? Works wonders on my T23. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html Allso, if the playback is still jerky, you can try and give the player process a higher priority. The video processor on the T23 was a marvel of it's time. Sure you can get blazing fast video chips on modern laptops, but compared to other video processors of it's time the savage can really hold it's own. Allso the audio chip brings most other audio solutions of the t23 era to shame, tested and k...

Hello! Could someone tell me the HD bay dimensions, there seems to be a bit of confusion on the maximum height of a HD one could fit in there! I'm upgradint to Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 which reads 9.5mm height. Will this fit, what about the speck, it reads HD's upto 60G, this one is 80G will the T23...

Thanks for all the input guys! After carefull consideration I'we come to the conclusion that a generic (noname) 12 volt -> 16vold 'cigarette lighter' inverter that i got from a local electric supply store for peanuts will do the trick.
