Re: Clean Windows 7 install on Thinkpad T420 with recovery disks

I you have lost the Lenovo recovery disk for Windows 7, its easy to get it in ISO format from any outer source, i have downloaded one from here http://<deleted>/ and it went well. But you need to have proper license key to activate, otherwise keep enjoying trial version only. yup thanks ...

ya thanks. I googled it and got in. Changed the pipel setting but was unable to delete google settings. No options for delete. (jaspen-meyer's suggestion). You can delete only the VALUES, which you do by double clicking on an entry, a box will pop up with the current value, delete the current value...

I am using firefox but cannot find out how to get to steps a,b,c.... Can you help? Start Firefox, type "about:config" on the address bar (minus the quotes), then press "Enter". Firefox will show a warning page. Click "I'll be careful, I promise". Firefox will then display a very long list of its in...

Re: T420 painfull slow with new SSD and docking station. Win 7 64

It's a second-hand unit, so the first thing to do is check its condition. You mention that the fan spins up and down, so you should check the CPU temperature. High temps will cause the CPU to throttle down its clock speed to minimize heat output. Check the fan and cooling fins for dust buildup, and...

Re: T420 painfull slow with new SSD and docking station. Win 7 64

Here are some things to try. 1. Replace the old-and-drying drying thermal paste, between the cpu and the cpu's heatsink, with Arctic Silver 5 or IC Diamond 7 2. Clean cpu heatsink 3. Use a 90W (20V & 4.5A) adapter 4. Reinstall the OS 5. if you're using firefox you can speed up browsing with these t...

Found fan control but do not see how to edit it.

It just seems to rev up when under minimal loads not sure why. I can not determine if it is overheating but I do not see why it should be. I have a SSD which would be cooler than a HDD.

RecommendedTP FanCOntrol settings for T420

I have a fan that is driving me nuts (and I am not alone according to google). I have downloaded TP FanControl program but I do not see where I can edit it and even if I could not sure of the settings. I just need this thing to quiet down. At times it sounds like it is going to take off into space.

T420 painfull slow with new SSD and docking station. Win 7 64

I have an older T420 that I love (i5, win 7 pro 64). Got it about 5 years ago but I LOVE IT. So much so I decided to get another. I purchased one in excellent condition on ebay and have installed a samsung 500GB SSD with clean install and added another 8gb of ram to make it 12gb total. My old T420 h...

Re: Clean Windows 7 install on Thinkpad T420 with recovery disks

I repeat: The one [key] under the T420-battery only works with Lenovo-W7 . It will NOT activate a standard non-Lenovo W7 version, legal or illegal! It worked. I used an iso uploaded and the key under battery. I had a problem with activation but used the phone number they provided and it worked.

Re: Clean Windows 7 install on Thinkpad T420 with recovery disks

These folks sell legitimate keys for .iso installs: http://www.keysaleonline.com I've purchased from them in the past. They're good to go. I have the key. It is the iso I need. The key is located under the battery and if I ever get an iso I will use the key I have for installation of Win 7. I would...

Re: Clean Windows 7 install on Thinkpad T420 with recovery disks

Recovery disks are just that: recovery of the previous (ex-factory) state. Since you already have recovery disks, you can/should delete your recovery partition. Uninstall/delete all your unwanted bloatware, then take an image and use that for future re-installs. Thanks but that is not what I want t...

Clean Windows 7 install on Thinkpad T420 with recovery disks

I purchased a used thinkpad T420 and the previous owner installed windows 10. I hate windows 10 so want to delete it. In the past I have used the win 7 pro x64 ISO which is no longer available. I do have another 420 pro x64 which I made recovery disks when new so I have those. I used the recovery di...

I am looking for a thinkpad T or X series (T420, T520, X220) in great condition. I have a t420, x220 and x230 will this work with all of them? I have a brand new in box ultrabase 3 which I assumed would fit the newly acquired t420. Now I find out it will only work with the x220 and 230.

Mofo are you in need of a T-42 with an excellent screen? I have one I have been trying to sell and finally gave up and stored it in the closet. Mine is in great shape, no heat guns used, however the battery appears deal but runs fine on AC. If you are interested I will sell for 75.00.
