7 in 1 Card Reader in T500 or W500
1, Are there differences in speed/performance in the card readers of the T500 vs. W500? 2. On the T500, is the card reader any faster than adding a CF card reader to USB? I plan to use the machine for processing photos using Adobe PS and Adobe LR 2, but biggest bottleneck seems to be in getting phot...

Re: new advanced mini dock
Pardon my ignorance, but is Lenovo's online site the best place to buy the mini-dock?

Keith You have a number of options to consider unless you are just set to get out from under the T42. I''m really not trying to take advantage of my situation and buy a new laptop. It seems that I've made a lot of wrong turns by thinking I could find a cheap fix and wind up with my cheap fix being ...

I must have asked the wrong question, because I've received no replies.... So let me ask another question, please. Where is the best place to advertise my T42 for parts, and what should I expect to receive for it. model 2378 Pentium M 1.7 GHz 2 GB RAM wireless b/g-card upgraded 12 mos ago i most lik...

Thanks for all of your replies... I think the one thing I feel pretty sure about is that I'm probably not the one to make this repair. Can you recommend someone? Now, I feel like I should have parted this laptop out over a year ago, and maybe bought a T61. With the price of an OEM battery on the nor...

Ray, thanks for your input. It will be difficult to find another T42 for me to test this battery using your suggestion. But if the fuse has blown, is that something I can repair/replace? Could I just go ahead and replace it now. That would probably be easier than finding another T42 owner in my area...

Dead battery T42 - how do I know it's a battery?
Thanks to forum members, I've replaced (or had replaced) a motherboard and HDD, upgraded RAM, all in the last 12 mos, and also within the last 12 mos. bought what was represented to be a new battery. Now, the INSTANT that I disconnect the T42 from the AC adaptor, it dies. No warning, just shuts down...

I'm confused. You don't have a firewire port. Are you talking about adding one on a PC card? Do you have a card? (which one?) or are you looking for one? I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough. In my original post, I explained what I was trying to accomplish, and asked for suggestions on how best to ac...

probably and old topic revisited-t42 and firewire cards
Will my 2378 machine accept firewire 800 or only the 400 mps? I have a desktop machine I use for photo processing but occasionally have the need to process with the T42. The files are RAW files and are usually 20 mb files and I often have 200-300 photos at a time to process with Adobe Lightroom. I u...

recommended vendors for refurbs?
I've posted in the T42 forum looking for service recommendations. In case that gets too expensive, can anyone refer me to any recommended vendors for selling refurbished T60 or T61 machines? I've been told Lenovo sells them but can't find a link. Thanks.

IBM replaced my motherboard and cmos battery on my T42 when it was about 3 days out of the 3 year extended warranty, thanks to some counseling from members of this forum. Shortly afterwards, I started having problems with the machine rebooting "from a serious error" and getting an ATI Graphics Card ...

Ray, thanks for your suggestion, as it sounds like a good possibility. However, you've overestimated my computer literacy. I googled for PC Doctors DOS, and located a site that suggested downloading each of 5 individual files to separate floppies. I don't have floppies anymore. So I downloaded the f...

t42 RTC Accuracy Test
A few months back, I received a lot of help from this forum's members getting IBM to replace a motherboard and internal battery on my machine that was 3 days out of warranty. It took a couple of weeks and many, many calls, but I finally found someone who understood the logic and reason of honoring t...

question for sktn77a or others with insight into this problem I use a docking station with my T42. Given your comments about the flex, is there a chance that someone could look at and actually "see" a problem with my motherboard if the solder is coming undone? If so, give me an idea of who or where?...

this is my 2nd thinkpad and probably 4th in my immediate family, but mine was bought from ibm, not lenovo. under warranty, it's a treat to have it serviced out of Atlanta, because i can understand Atlanta style english. but now, they don't even give you a case # until they've established whether you...

thanks for your replies. my post didn't detail all of the people I spoke with inside the atlanta office. every tech, manager, department head all said the same thing, "too bad!" the machine was actually SHIPPED on the 28th, so they said warranty started on the 27th! i told them there was no way it c...

t42 motherboard
I was told by IBM in Atlanta earlier today that the warranty expired on my T42 3 days ago, and that they would not offer any help replacing a motherboard. Running a motherboard RTC test in the Access IBM set of tools gave me an error code and failed test message. The machine performs on par, but it ...

2378 100 GB Hitachi 7200 HDD 1.5 GB RAM 1.70 GHz Processor Well, I've completed the install on the new Hitachi HDD, thanks to all of the help here. Hard drive upgrade of t42
My system is a T42 2378-FZU, 1.70 GHz processor and 1.5GB RAM with standard issue 40 GB HD. Reading here, it looks like the TravelStar 7K100 is a no brainer, but I have a couple of questions. I've read an online review from the newegg site that said: Cons: IBM Notebooks use IBM Firmware on hard driv...
