Re: Fix or sell my X61s?
Follow up questions - I see from HMM that the part number I need is 42X3804. Is it the only compatible part or some other would do as well? Does it make sense to purchase these parts on eBay (haven't been there in a while)? Anything else I should be aware of?

Re: Fix or sell my X61s?
Thanks for heads up, ajkula66, for $50 - 60 bucks it doesn't make much sense to sell. Fix it then :) If you are handy enough, you can just replace the fan itself for less than $10.- (check eBay for "Lenovo X61s fan"). I've seen plenty of warnings saying that people on eBay aren't really conscious ab...

Fix or sell my X61s?
I have this amazing X61s (7668 CTO) that was working as my home server for the past few years. Recently the main fan started failing - first it started making weird noises and ultimately machine stopped booting due to "Fan error". I am not particularly attached to it, but it's nice to have a smallis...

Re: W701 overheating
Resource hog or not - isn't it a little strange that I cannot properly use the laptop (with color sensor and all) not because it's underpowered, but because it's not properly ventilated? :) Haven't touched the paste yet, probably should. Then again, the problem is not overheating itself, it's the in...

W701 overheating
Hi all. My W701 is overheating. I am not doing anything too taxing - about ten tabs in Chrome (GMail, Facebook, some blogs), Photoshop CS 6, Dropbox, maybe a few other background things. Exhaust vents are going so hot I can barely hold my hand there. Usually, if I don't slow down with use the system...

Re: Need buying advice on T series 520 vs 420 vs W series vs MBP
I have spoken with Lenovo's sales on their chat line and over the phone - sales rep Adam was really helpful and, as many other Lenovo employees, a long time owner of ThinkPad line laptops. According to his words the W520 model is indeed the same size as T520, but slightly lighter and can accommodate...

Re: Need buying advice on T series 520 vs 420 vs W series vs MBP
This is not what the tabook says. Hence my question above.lead_org wrote: Each ram slot on the T520 supports 8 gigs ram module, so two ram slots = 16 gigs of ram. While, a 4 ram slot equipped quad core W520 supports 32 gigs of ram. T420 supports 2 x 8 gigs = 16 gigs, X220 supports 2 x 8 gigs =16 gigs.

One more thing I've noticed while trying to configure T520 system on Lenovo's site - it looks like a lot of options that are available (i7 QM CPUs for example) that are not in the tabook. What gives?

Re: Need buying advice on T series 520 vs 420 vs W series vs MBP
You can consider the T520 with quad-core; you can get 4 RAM slots on that for 4x4GB. Otherwise, you're out for astronomically pricey 2x8GB modules. MacBook Pros come with two slots regardless. That said, you'll get a 135W adapter stock on the T520. Just want to reconfirm if I understood you correct...

Need buying advice on T series 520 vs 420 vs W series vs MBP
Hi all, will need to purchase a laptop for work within the next 2 - 3 weeks. My primary activities would include heavy database (MS SQL, mySQL) and .NET development (VS2010, VS2008) plus a few virtual machines to run test web server instances. These are the heaviest of tasks I could think of. I'd li...

If I understand the niche for 420s - it shouldn't have quad core option, but it would be reasonable to expect HD/HD+ screens.Colonel O'Neill wrote:T520 will have dual and quad Sandy Bridge options. T420/T420s are still dual, AFAIK.

Tempting, but I'd still go for 420s since it's a lot lighter. And, again, no data in tabook about 's' model.Colonel O'Neill wrote:The 30 hours is a 9-cell standard + 9-cell slice on the T420. T420s is 10 hours with a 6-cell standard + Ultrabay battery.

There's two slots on the Edge 13 with a max of 4GB of memory. It doesn't seem like they'd do it differently on the bigger versions, but who knows. Quick question - what's the maximum RAM this laptop supports? I am thinking of buying a 2GB Edge 14" version and upgrading it to something like 4GB or even 8GB if hardware allows.
