Re: x220t blank screen / reseating LCD cables - really need to remove kbd bezel?!
or... LOL! - wanted to boot it up again to SSH and install a couple different things to try to read/decode EDID and see if it thinks anything is there at all. but this time... BIOS screen OS etc. all came up normally??!? well that makes me feel so much better! the reason I'd been putting off messing...

Re: x220t blank screen / reseating LCD cables - really need to remove kbd bezel?!
It's not too difficult - it will be worth it when/if re-inserting the cable will fix your issue! :) Here's the X220T HMM: https://thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hmm_pdf/0a60175_04.pdf thanks BigT0ny , yeah I do already have the HMM, and I know it sounds lazy but even taking off the kbd took the last of ...

Re: x220t blank screen / reseating LCD cables - really need to remove kbd bezel?!
(oh, should have mentioned that when I had it on the external display, the display manager saw that there are 2 display ports but that one of the displays is not connected, so the hope/assumption is still that it is in fact the cables. just so odd since there hasn't been any trauma to the machine th...

x220t blank screen / reseating LCD cables - really need to remove kbd bezel?!
so, a couple weeks ago, my x220t woke up from sleep and the screen was blank. not exactly a big surprise, linux has done this to me before on various thinkpads (although never this one) - rebooted, no BIOS screen no nothing although the backlight comes on. - tried rebooting many times but still not ...

dang your scaly hide, RMS , where were you 2 weeks ago when I bought a cheap R7 370 so that my tired old desktop could play No Man's Sky ? people, for now it's still tough to find any RX at all, unless you're willing to shell out like USD299-399. they were supposed to be around 100, but that's not q...

wsus-offline ***DOES*** download/install updates directly from MSFT, it just takes a while to do it. as olex126 mentioned, it wants to update you to IE11. you have to do that part. it also wants to install the latest update to Windows-Update. you NEED that part. it also wants to install the latest u...

I was at the point where even the Windows-Update-update "fix" was stalled at searching 0% ZOMFG. roll-ups? no better.
wsus-offline needs to run basically like 3 times not to mention it has to download an annoying amount of files from MS. and yet?
IT.

Re: ok to disengage fan control on W520 temporarily?
hell with tpfancontrol, what you want for any sandy/ivy -bridge is P-state + thermald. conferre: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=117552 in theory, mint / ubuntu / debian are now supposed to prefer pstate over acpi, but in my experience it doesn't happen - so, explicitly pass 'intel_pstate...

I needed my non-thinkpad win7 desktop after literally 2 years of not booting it, and windows update stuck at 0% even after leaving it for 12+ hours. I tried current roll-ups and windows-update-KB-updates and all of them hang at 0% as well. thanks, MSFT. this is what worked: http://download.wsusoffli...

The X series is pretty damm popular outside of Japan too. ... I think that the X makes a lot of compromises people dont like... ie. the lack of touchpad in some models oh, hell to the no. the lack of trackpad ***IS A FEATURE*** X is X. Re: X61T Finally Close to Finished
I use the same WSUS tool as well and have done for years; a very simple and effective tool which also blocks certain updates that are deemed bad enough to be blacklisted. You can also edit the blacklist but I have not tried that yet, e.g. to manually block those Win 7 and 10 telemetry stuff. Anothe...

Thanks everyone, some new ideas to try. I left it on for something like 36 hours and it finally came out of it with just over 100 updates. I'm installing them 10 at a time since from past experience all at once does not seem to work. Left it on after doing 20 updates, with it set to automatically u...

wot NorrisCell said! it starts to get ugly in NA/US - I live in some remote Atlantic island where vmobl/akaSprint has surprisingly amazing 4GLTE coverage, but is still CDMA so I can basically take my phone nowhere.

really sounding like cable issues. I had a sort of similar issue with my beloved x61t and luckily reseating the motherboard end of the cable was enough to fix it - http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=115399 still no idea how it happened. and I know that even though it's a minor and fairly str...

Everything you read is an Opinion. I love conspiracy theories, but critical thinking and logic are required. Re: Linux Mint The who, what, and where of this event is hotly disputed. you may not have to deal with it manually - Slackware still has the tpb (ThinkPadButtons) package, which ought to handle any bezel hotkeys and volume buttons. hi kennyschiff - I've used thinkfan in the past on many many various X series and yeah on older OS and older machines it works well although you do have to put in a bit of time setting ranges in the config file. it's a decent enough tool.
