Cleaning the Fan

Hi folks -- I have a Thinkpad T60 Widescreen, and wanted to get some opinions on cleaning out my fan. In the past I've simply turned off my computers and sprayed compressed air directly into the vents, but someone suggested that doing so might actually be harmful to the fan -- i.e. by warping or ben...

Thanks for the response guys. I'm almost completely sure that I haven't added anything new to the computer in the last few days since the beeping started. However, one thing I've noticed is that the beeping seems to start after I've had the computer on for awhile. For example, I'll have the computer...

Random Beeping Driving Me Crazy

Hi all, I have a T60 running Windows XP, and over the past few days my computer has just randomly started beeping a lot. Every minute or so, for no particular reason, I'll get the standard computer beep that you sometimes get when a dialog box pops up, etc. This is NOT the sound that some people get...

T60 Freezes on Standby

Hi all. I have a T60 Widescreen, running Windows XP. I have noticed that on occasion, when the monitor shuts off due to inactivity, it will not come back on. The computer remains on, but the screen stays blank and I can't get it back. I have tried closing and reopining the lid, adjusting the brightn...

Fingerprint Reader with no CSS

Hi all. I have a Thinkpad T60, running Windows XP. I have started to get really annoyed with the long bootup that seems to be a result of Client Security Solution 7.0, but I rather like the fingerprint reader. I've heard it's possible to get rid of CSS yet keep the fingerprint reader. I was wonderin...

Screen Hangs

Hello. I am running a T60 Widescreen on Windows XP Pro, and I have recently noticed that when I've been away from the computer for awhile so that the screen and or hard disk turn off, when I come back and move the mouse or press a key, the system seems to start back up, but the screen does not turn ...

The T60 Hyperactive Fan

Hello. I've been following the threads dealing with the high T60 temperatures and the constant fan activity. My question for you guys: My T60 Widescreen is actually quite cool, with the TP Fan Control reporting CPU and GPU temperatures usually around 48-50 degrees, very rarely more than 50 unless I'...

Client Security Solution

Hi all. A couple of quick questions about Lenovo's Client Security Solution if you guys could help out. I have the Security Chip enabled and I use the Fingerprint Reader for my logons. Is it possible to have the option of entering the password in lieu of the fingerprint reader? Right now, I can only...

Hi all. A couple of questions for you regarding cleaning the laptop if you don't mind. First off, how often is it recommended that I get the dust out of the laptop? I've had this T60 for about a month and a half now - is it time or can it wait? Also, based on what you've all said, I guess it's not a...

Thank you for the link to the thread. It's quite helpful. One thing: that thread doesn't address my speakers question. Is it OK to use compressed air to remove dust from the speaker holes?

Thanks!

Compressed Air

Hi all. I have a Thinkpad T60 15.4'' widescreen and wanted to ask about dust removal. Specifically, there are some dust particles caught in the speaker-holes on the left side of the machine. Is it safe for me to spray some compressed air to get the dust out of the speakers? Also, what's the best way...

I have a T60 15.4'' widescreen, and it definitely has that "high pitched" buzz but it's very faint. You have to be looking for it in a very quiet room. It's definitely not a big deal. I haven't heard of anyone with a T60 that had it be so loud as to be a major problem.

Thanks for the replies. That's interesting - I didn't know that I could launch IE with no add-ons like that. I will play around with that and report back with what happens. In the meantime, my IE randomly crashed while I was on google, and here was the "add-on" that was listed as causing the problem...

Hello all and thanks for your continued help. I don't really care about the system detection function; I just meant that as an example of how the browser repeatedly crashes. So you think it's an ActiveX problem with the software? And how about the momentary freezing on every 4th launch or something ...

Hi all. Thanks for the responses. I am definitely considering the switch to Firefox, but I usually like IE 7 a lot and was happy with it on my old machine, so the preferable solution would be just to get IE working optimally. I am hesitant to look at Windows Defender as the problem, because I just i...

IE Problems

Hi all. I'm running a brand new T60 Widescreen with Windows XP Pro and IE 7. I'm having a few issues with IE 7 and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Hi guys - thanks very much for the responses. I gave what you suggested a try SpaRood, and that also seemed to reduce the noise a bit more. The corners had definitely been creaking. I appreciate the suggestion. And thanks for the info about the screws - I would rather leave them a bit loose in that ...

Possible Solution to Squeaky Palmrest?

Hi all - this is pretty simple but I figured I'd share it anyway. In my other post I asked what to do about a squeaky palm rest on my T60 Widescreen, and some of you suggested tightening the palm rest screws. When I tried that I noticed that they were already quite tight, so I actually tried looseni...

Hi again all, thanks for the responses. Jeffm, was it complicated to reset the keyboard bevel? Did it require removing and resetting your palm rest? To be more specific, there is some creaking/flexing on the left palm rest, right near the stickers & above the slot for a card. On the right, there is creaking towards the very front of the palm rest, on the thin plastic part that slopes down. I've read that some flexing is normal in the 15'' Thinkp...

Thanks for the responses. My chief concern was whether the flexing/creaking could cause any damage, because I know the right palm rest sits above the HD. Basically it'll creak if I put pressure on it when typing; the right one doesn't flex so much as it creaks, whereas the left one flexes a little b...

Palm Rest Creaking

Hi all. I noticed that on my new Thinkpad T60 WS, the right and left palm rests give a bit under pressure when I'm typing. It's not too significant, but they creak and flex a little bit. Is this normal? Also, how well protected is the stuff underneath? Could pressure on a flexing palm rest cause dam...

Hey guys. You're great, thanks for the helpful responses. Just to clarify, the sound does *not* only kick in when the fan starts; it is a constant high-pitched noise that lessens if I lower the CPU load via the power management settings. Hello. I am new to the forums and am the proud new owner of a Thinkpad T60. I was hoping that maybe some of you could help me out with a problem I am having. I have pretty sensitive ears AND I tend to be obsessive about new computers (horrible combination!) and I have recently noticed a rather faint...
