Re: P51 power adapter

Just following up in case anyone's curious. I bought a USB 3 dock for this machine (P/N 40A80045US). Now I take away its 45W power adapter with me on trips. It charges the machine when I'm not working and is very lightweight and compact.

FS: A31 complete package

Hi, It's time to get this out of mom's house! This is an A31 2653-Q5U, P4M 2.0GHz, 1GB, 120GB 5400, XP Pro I'm glad that was in my signature line, because it's been so long since I bought it I don't have that info anywhere else! It worked fine for many years but did exhibit occasional BSODs. I was s...

Re: A31-2652 No POST

Sorry to jump in here without any useful information. I can't help but ask what are you doing with your machines? I have an old A31p back at a parent's house, and am wondering whether it'll boot after sitting for years. I suppose I'll charge all the batteries (I recall owning at least 5) before gett...

Re: P51 power adapter

A smaller charge will likely just maintain the battery while in use and would still charge when shut down. I used to use a smaller charger on my W series workstation, a small warning would appear when you plug it in but it worked very well. Loved the smaller charger for traveling. Thanks Greg! This...

P51 power adapter

Hi, I got my new ThinkPad P51 recently and want a spare power adapter. Ideally it would be either thinner or lighter than the 170W one that came with the laptop, to use for travel. Am I restricted to the same model # or are the other 170W adapters with rectangular tips close enough ? What came with ...

Re: R61 transfer speeds with PCMCIA cards

On Thinkpads with an internal pci-e bus, which includes at least the T400/500 going forwards, the old Cardbus/PCI slot had to be "faked" by an interface chip supplied by Yamaha. The same chip does the Firewire on such machines, with a really bad audio reputation. It also makes using a SATA adapter ...

Re: R61 transfer speeds with PCMCIA cards

thanks for all the responses. actually i'm trying to sort this issue because i need to mix down 30-40 tracks at 24bit / 96k. i've been able to do it before via eSATA. you're exactly - separate buses are needed. that's why i'm using the onboard Firewire port for my interface. btw, this machine has a ...

Re: R61 transfer speeds with PCMCIA cards

thanks for your message. for the work i'm doing, i need synchronous data transfer. Firewire and eSATA are synchronous whereas USB is asynchronous. i did try daisy-chaining a hard drive through a firewire audio interface. this was connected to the on-board 4-pin 1394 port and worked fine. that was an...

R61 transfer speeds with PCMCIA cards

hi, my R61 8932CTO running Win7/32 has an unusually slow file transfer rate when an external drive is connected using a PCMCIA card, either eSATA or Firewire 400. i've used the computer in this configuration quite often in the past, yet have never run into this problem before. the one thing that's p...

the device in question isn't a card, it is a full-blown interface. anyway yes the company offers an updated driver that is compatible with Win 7.

Re: serious Windows 7 problems on R61

i think the PCMCIA card crashes are gone now. i'm curious what changed but glad that problem is fixed. i'm wondering if my firewire device is fixed now or not too. Your firewire device could be incompatible with W7 and/or 64-bit software. I ran into a similar problem using a device which works majes...

try installing SP1 via Windows Update. Also try installing whatever else is offered by Windows Update. You can install some Lenovo Windows 7 drivers from the following link. I would install at least Chipset drivers and the Hotkey Features driver to get the Lenovo Interface Driver included in that p...

serious Windows 7 problems on R61

hi, i recently did a clean install on Windows 7 32 bit on my R61 (see sig. for details) and am having some serious woes. i've been using Windows 7 64 bit that came pre-installed on my mini Acer laptop and it quickly converted me into a believer in the OS. running on the ThinkPad has been much the op...

thanks - that helped me troubleshoot which slot was acting up. don't know if one of the old chips is bad, but i really had to almost force the new chip in to seat it properly. once that was in & working, i installed the other old one and voila! 1GB! 8)

A31 RAM not showing up

hi, i've been running my dear ol' A31 as an internet machine for, well, years. recently i noticed the installed 1GB RAM is down, showing as 512MB in BIOS and in Win XP computer info. of course the machine's running much slower. i replaced one chip with a new one with no change. i swapped out the oth...

Expresscard slot on R61?

Pelican case fit question

hi i found a Pelican 1490 case on ebay that was too good an offer to pass up. it came with foam but i am thinking about getting the computer tray insert for it (1499C). however, my R61 is rather deep for this case with the extended battery protruding behind it. does the insert take up additional dep...

possible solution

you can do what i did with my A31: buy an el-cheapo PCMCIA card. then you'd have the option of using it in the dock (the 2631 has 2 PCMCIA slots, anyway) or directly in the machine when you're undocked.
