T420s RAM suggestions?

Simple question here for those in the know: I'd like to upgrade my T420s to 16GB RAM and am looking for specific suggestions of 2x8GB modules to purchase. I've read the old threads, but I'm asking again because I don't keep up on memory pricing/availability and know nothing about what brands/specs a...

I really don't want to do this. My main drive (also an SSD) is perfectly fine. I just need some extra storage.

Re: Add mSATA SSD to T420s?

Update: I purchased the Crucial MX200 250GB. Took the memory cover off, snapped it in, booted up. It does not appear as a drive in "Computer" (Windows 7). It DOES appear in "Device Manager," under Disk Drives, as Crucial_CT250MX200SSD3. Under properties it says it is working properly. How do I get i...

Well, could you please let us know how much space you need and the amount that you'd be willing to spend...I'm certain that we could come up with some recommendations... I am mostly just trying to understand if anything advertised as a "mSATA SSD" will work with my machine or if I need to look for ...

Add mSATA SSD to T420s?

I am out of space on the SSD that came in my 420s and I am looking to add internal storage in the easiest way possible (I don't want to replace current SSD with a larger one). I was thinking to get an ultrabay caddy SSD but I see internet posts about using a mSATA SSD in a PCIe slot (in order to kee...

I am answering my own question here for the future reference of anyone reading this thread.

I bought a "Cable Matters Gold Plated DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (Male to Female) with Audio in Black" for $12 on Amazon. It works fine. No changing of settings or other fuss.

I recently picked up a refurbed T420s 4174-HQ7 (2.5GHz, 4GB, 160 SSD) for $287 shipped on e-Bay. Came with a dock. Mint condition, some warranty remaining. The display kind of sucks, especially coming off a Flexview- but otherwise it seems to be a fantastic machine for the money. Fast, light, good f...

Re: Upgrade from X201 to T410?

Would this be a wise decision or would it be better to purchase a newer model? I much prefer the classic keyboard! I have no opinion on whether you should upgrade or not, but the T410 you are interested in sounds expensive to me. For comparison I recently (like, today) acquired the following T420s ...

You might want to confirm that your T420s has the DP++ icon next to the port.

T420s DisplayPort Question

New (to me) T420s. I want to connect the DisplayPort to the HDMI input on my TV, and have picture and sound. Building one of these is waaaaay above my pay grade. I don't understand. $900 for one of these off of eBay is a ludicrous price, while building one shouldn't cost you anything near that! Sorry, my "pay grade" comment was not a reference to price. I was simply suggesting that I don't have the skills...

I guess I had kind of assumed the photos were just meant to be representative since the seller states it will be custom made. There are actually at least 2 different machines in the photos. Dimm down to the lowest brightness, and see if it stays on longer. Old or defective CCFL at some point need more power than the inverter is designed to deliver. Yes, this seems to be working to keep the display on longer. Also, I have a parts machine with a working but damaged panel. What are my op...

T420 with 1600x900 screen, or W520 with FHD display. I would choose the latter if you want a very nice screen and don't mind lugging around a little extra weight. Both have traditional keyboards and should more than meet your needs. Ok, thanks. I would actually prefer the smaller/lighter machine. I...

Yet another "Which Thinkpad Should I Buy?" thread

Well, it seems that my T60p is nearing the end, and I need some replacement advice. I use Thinkpads exclusively, and for all the classic reasons: keyboard, Trackpoint, form factor, durability, etc. I tend to buy obsolete models when they are a couple years old and keep them for about 4 years. You co...

No, I don't think so. But I rarely re-boot it.

The display is back to working again for just a few seconds when I wake the machine up. Then it goes black. :(

I got my first X-series today, an X60, 1702-4EU. It is so small, it is like a mini-me to my T-series! Anyway, what is is the deal with the battery on these? Mine is an OEM FRU 93P5030.
