BIOS password and CMOS battery death/replacement, X31

Hello, Just wanted to know: if BIOS password is set up and my battery {CMOS?, the circle small one near RAM modules in X31} goes to heaven, will I be able {after replacement with fresh new battery} to boot my X31 with the old BIOS password, without any password or not at all? if not, is there a chan...

hello, the fan error has not happened anymore. so it looks fine now. no need for any repair attempt. and when using the adaptive CPU mode fan is not used so often so the run is quiet and smooth. but cleaning might help a bit, though. but replacement is the final fix in this case if total fan error h...

Hey, I just made a short deep search on hitachigst.com and found that my original 40 GB HDD 4200 rpm had only 2 MB of cache, so I believe this was a put back at my former times. Now I feel the power of 8MB and 7200 rpm and that makes a noticeable wow difference {and you do not need vista for the wow...

hello, see my post here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=43918 and make your decision. if you have 4200 rpm disk inside I can only recommend the 7k100 hitachi replacement. 1,3 GB RAM also makes added value to your performance. all this dependes on your budget, but I think the upgrade is w...

and I forgot to mention that hibernation and resume is now also much faster, but I would await faster resume, it is not 2x faster maybe only 1,6 times faster than before. and I cannot help myself but with that new disk I seem to feel my X31 more solid and stable and handy....but that is only the "ne...

big RAM and fast HDD make a difference

Hello, just as FYI: I did the reinstallation of my TP X31 yesterday {5 recov. CDs} some of my observations{in comparison with the same process but with 512 MB ram and 4200 HDD} 1. new 7200 disk is really fast, even a bit louder but that is OK for me. 2. 1,25 GB RAM also helped I believe to that fast...

do not look for logic where it is not necessary to be used.
SN, model type, PN etc. are just a bunch of combinations in some systems.
anyway even if you found it, it would not make any difference in using TPs or you try to prove that IBM/Lenovo is totally ingenious?

Hello Thanks for info. with 1,25 GB RAM now, the same heat appears to be generated. But I played a bit with Adaptive CPU mode and then CPU is not running on max, air vent is less used, too. however memory still keeps hot. hmm. anyway, I got a steel table, so conductive material beneath can absorb so...

Hello Gator,

Do you think the fan is replacable by a single user operation or it needs a HI TECH person with all the gadgets?
And what about the price and condition?

thx.

IBM X31 Airbag solution? does it have the motion sensor?

Hello, I have this TP X31 2672-CEG, produced cca in October 2003. I would like to know if this NB has the Airbag APS solution or not. From all the info I could get on the net I think that the airbag solution {motion sensor} was first built in IBM 40's series X40, T40 etc... Do you have any more rele...
