Re: Why am I not feeling the "love" for the X220?

Put a SSD in there. SSDs prices have gotten low enough to recommend them to everyone (unless you need 1TB+ on a laptop). I too upgraded from a X200 to X220. I installed SSD on both, but the SATA speed on the X200 bottle necked the SSD (X200 supports only 1.5Gbps). With the same SSD, my X220 boots up...

It doesn't have a discrete video card. Ivy Bridge CPUs have integrated GPU.

Btw, it may take me a few days to reply to question if you post it here since the thread got buried very quickly. If you want a question answered right away, shoot me a PM so that I will get email notification. Thanks.

SOLD: Dell OptiPlex 7010 Desktop (Core i7-3770, 8GB RAM)

I have a Dell OptPlex 7010 Desktop for sale. It has a Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770 3.4GHz CPU with 8GB of RAM. It runs Windows 7 Pro (comes with the DVD as well), comes with keyboard and mouse (no monitor), and the rest of the spec can be found below. I purchased it from Dell Outlet back in September to ...

Re: speedwise is Windows 7<Windows 8

Just put Windows 8 on my X220 with a Samsung 830 SSD. I was too lazy to do a clean instal, but the upgrade process was surprisingly fast. I did not measure the time, but it certainly took less than an hour. Installed Lenovo system update and downloaded the relevant driver updates, and everything wor...

ThinkCenter M91p SFF, what kind of RAM?

I'm in the process of acquiring a few cheap quad-core desktops to help running my research project. I came across this M91p with Core i7 2600 for $470 including shipping and tax... What a deal, I don't think I can build one this cheap. Anyway, it comes only with 4GB of RAM, and I need more for the p...

Get the Asus ultrabook. You probably won't see such high res screen on the X-series until high-res display become real mainstream, which is perhaps at least a year or two away.

Yes, just order a X200s palm rest w/o fingerprint reader on it. Look for the part number here and call Lenovo to see if you can get one from them (or check eBay) http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6632_03.pdf edit: there are plenty of them on eBay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i...

You can get a better price on eBay. I sold mine, 32GB wifi-ONLY version, for $550 last week. Your 4G version can go a bit more on, although you have to pay eBay fee.

T430u

This looks interesting: http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/8/3228993/lenovo-thinkpad-t430u-official-announcement I was excited about the X1 Carbon, but not having a 1080+ resolution, nor IPS panel, makes that high price hard to swallow. This T430u seems to fit right between T430s and X1 Carbon in terms ...

Re: ThinkPad production returns to Japan

Probably just one or two top of the line or limited edition model. It doesn't make sense in terms of cost to move production back to japan. Country of Origin really doesn't mean much to quality. What matter are the design, and the time and money the company is will to spend in quality control. Apple...

Re: x220 harddisk format?

X220 uses 7mm.

You can fit a 9mm drive into it by not using the drive caddy. That's going to be a little wobbly, but stuffing some papers or whatever in the gap can stabilize it. However, I can only recommend this for a 9mm SSD drive, as you would want 0 movement for traditional hard drive.

Re: x230 Memory Upgrade

Do you use hibernation? If yes, and you have no need for 16GB, then don't go for 16GB. The more RAM you have the longer it takes to go into and get out of hibernation ( hibernation copies everything stored in memory to harddisk ). That being said, I use only sleep mode or power down. With a decent S...

Re: X220 - cool and quiet?

I have owned a X61, X200, and now I am using a X220. X220 is in between X61 and X200, in terms of "cool and quiet". However, forcing the CPU to run and the lowest speed on the X220 makes it very cool and quiet, and the X220 remains fast and responsive at such low CPU speed, and is definitely fast en...

Gen 2 of the Intel X25M SSD, 160GB. I have been using it in my desktop, which recently got upgraded to a larger SSD. I don't understand Russian, but just by looking at the video it seems to be a good screen, still TN though. Lenovo will have a hard time selling this thing.
