It sounds like a bad battery can affect performance? Like make the computer freeze/crash or have a hard time starting? Hopefully a new one means less frequent freeze/crash issues at least.

The other common factor of every single failure is that I always have RealPlayer audio streaming in the background. Yeah, CPU-intensive or multimedia stuff seems to make it happen. Perhaps I should mention that I did a "Custom" factory restore. I think I only left out the Symantec stuff and Picasa and kept everything else...
